We are going to watch and review a fight between Saul Canelo Alvarez from Mexico and Jose Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico. This was a 10-round non-championship Welterweight contest, Alvarez and Cotto had successful wins, before this fight. The venue for the fight was the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA So guys Canelo gets the victory in the 9th round. More of an organised and systematic breakdown from Canelo for the referee to make a decision, than a complete destruction and annihilation of the opponent. We obviously saw Canelo hurt in the first round but he was able to keep composure and turn the fight around. So we can see the progression that Canelo has made with his style of boxing. In this match, he was happy to box and maintain distance, although you can still sense that he wields hard sturdy powerful strikes. The difference in this fight was his movement which was more passive than what we are used to seeing today from Canelo. The distance he maintained obviously presented him with more time to understand what was happening in the ring. Today we see a more confident and aggressive Canelo where he may choose to ease his way into the fight during the first round but then soon after he presses forward in his aggressive manner. Another difference you could pick out was his head movement. Even though he was younger and more exuberant in this fight, his ability to anticipate attacks was not as adept as it is today.
