Ric Flair came to the WWF holding the "Big Gold Belt", (the NWA / WCW championship) and Vince McMahon had no issues with showing the championship on WWF programming. Claiming to be "The Real World's Champion", Ric Flair's arrival garnered a ton of attention from the wrestling media. Hulk Hogan had regained the WWF Championship at WrestleMania VII. Throughout 1991 Hogan mainly worked with Sgt. Slaughter, but when Ric Flair made his WWF debut it seemed like the WWF didn't know what direction to go in. Sid Justice also made his WWF debut around the same time, and while the WWF were initially going to go with Sid vs Hogan at WrestleMania, the bigger drawing match would definitely be Hulk Hogan vs Ric Flair. A series of events would lead to the Flair vs Hogan match not happening, and there have been many reasons given as to why the biggest marquee match in WWF history (at the time) didn't take place.
