Late in 1995, it was decided that Shawn Michaels would be the guy to hold the WWF World Heavyweight Championship throughout much of 1996, and it all started at the Royal Rumble that year. Shawn Michaels won the 1996 Royal Rumble and got a title shot against Bret Hart at WrestleMania 12 in a 60 minute Iron Man match.
