When the historic first ever brand split happened in 2002, it was decided that the Undisputed Champion would not be eligible for the draft. Instead, the WWE Undisputed Champion would be able to travel to both Raw and Smackdown, and competitors from each brand were able to challenge the title holder. Ric Flair presented Triple H with a new Undisputed Title Belt one week after the draft, and the first man who wanted a match with The Game was The Undertaker. ‘Taker would have to first win a match against Stone Cold Steve Austin at Backlash 2002 before he got a shot at the gold. In the end, Undertaker faced Hulk Hogan at Judgment Day 2002 for the title, and “Big Evil” was able to become the new WWE Undisputed Champion after defeating the Hulkster on Pay Per View. During his reign as Undisputed Champion, The Undertaker would also feud with Jeff Hardy. The Jeff Hardy vs Undertaker feud is well remembered today thanks to their ladder match on Raw. While this was going on, The Undertaker would also feud with Smackdown’s Triple H, the number one contender for the title.
