Most old school wrestling fans will remember Gorilla Monsoon as the voice of WWF television throughout much of the 80s and early 90s, while wrestling history buffs will know that Gorilla Monsoon was a larger than life performer who became a top heel and top babyface in Vince McMahon Snr's WWWF. The backstage area at WWE shows, right behind the curtain, is known as The Gorilla Position, named after Gorilla Monsoon as this is where he could normally be found as he worked backstage in the old WWF. What you may not know though, is that Gorilla Monsoon was once a top babyface and a top heel in New York, and at one point he also held a financial stake in the WWWF along with Vince McMahon Senior. Gorilla Monsoon wore many hats in wrestling. He was a wrestler, a booker, a shareholder, an on-screen authority figure, but most fans will remember him as a TV host and commentator on WWE programming. His work with Jesse Ventura was trend setting, but his partnership with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan was truly brilliant. Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan were a match made in heaven, and it has been tough for commentators to follow their unbelievable performances.
