After a good WWF run that would see Goldust become a multi-time Intercontinental Champion, Dustin decided to return to WCW (a place that Dustin considered home). The only issue here is that WCW was not the same place that Dustin had left back in 1995, and because Dustin had so much success with the outlandish Goldust character, the decision was made to have Dustin debut a new "out-there" gimmick named "SEVEN" (sometimes spelt Se7en or 7even). After some introductory vignettes, Turner Broadcasting decided that the Seven character should get nixed. Vince Russo approached Dustin in regards to removing this gimmick before it truly got started, and Dustin agreed to go in a different direction. Because the vignettes had already aired, Dustin end up coming out on WCW Nitro completely dressed in the Seven attire, and he would cut a worked shoot promo where he trashed the WWF, the Goldust character, and WCW for "making him" become yet another outlandish character.
