Magandang pelikula!

I know the reviews here are mixed but I'm the type of person who doesn't like many movies and can be a bit critical. I loved this movie though. Would I still love it if Chloe Grace was not in it? Probably not. The girl lights up the screen whenever she's on and she's an amazing actor for her age. Luli ( Chloe's character ) meets Glenda after running away, Glenda is a tragic and sad character who was probably like luli a decade earlier. The story worked for me because I saw the two characters as possibly having similar fates, but will luli follow Glenda's path into tragedy or will she persevere. Now maybe those who gave it poor reviews didn't see the beauty in that aspect of the movie but it was hard for me to ignore. The acting is wonderful and I loved every scene.

Chloe Grace Moretz is Luli, a thirteen year old girl who is at a bar with her mother for her birthday. One of the presents is a real live gun. The drunken patrons seem amused and we are quickly aware of an atmosphere filled with trailer trash. The next morning, Luli hears a noise downstairs and sees a stranger sitting at the kitchen table. She points the useful pistol gift at the guy who explains that the door was open, so he just let himself in. Mom walks in and seems to know the intruder and they up and leave together in his Cadillac convertible. Luli's dad asks his daughter where her mother is, and she tells him that she took off with a man in a big car. Her father sighs, and now he also leaves. Luli is alone in the house watching television and notices an ad promoting the qualities of Las Vegas. She grabs a few things and walks along a road and gets picked up by a guy named Ed in a pick up truck wearing a cowboy hat. They travel for a while, until an argument results in Luli getting out and waking to a field for a nap. When she awakens, a woman is relieving herself at the side of the road. Glenda picks her up and they end up robbing a store. The pair wind up Glenda's friends house and by strange coincidence, Ed is there, serving drinks. Luli goes with him to a pool hall where a man assaults her in the ladies room; not to worry, Ed to the rescue. Romeo and Juliet; or better yet, Bonnie and Clyde stop at a motel and argue. Ed chases Luli into a field and afterwords, she is tied to a bed while being told that they were meant to be together. The owner of the cabin (Alec Baldwin) shows up and tells Ed he has to leave soon. Glenda reappears and has a confrontation with Ed concerning Luli. There is no happily ever after in Hick, which takes an interesting idea but meanders along with a bunch of low lifes with no clear direction. Chloe Grace Moretz is terrific, as she narrates throughout, much like Sissy Spacek in Badlands. The soundtrack is also good, featuring music from Bob Dylan and Patsy Cline. I have great expectations in the future for Miss Moretz, but here her talent is wasted.

Full Disclosure: Watched only the first 50 minutes, the remainder at 4X. Another example of a disturbing cinematic trend that sexualizes pre or pubescent females. Others of the ilk include 2007's "Hounddog" and, from 2008, "Gardens of the Night." A case is also made to include "Taxi Driver" which at least offers balance. It's a given Art occasionally pushes or breaks boundaries to further our understanding of society, ourselves. Sometimes Art is nowhere to be found. The latter is the case in "Hick," a perfectly dreadful tome focusing on an abandoned 13 year old adrift in an adult world. Unlike the harrowing "Gardens of the Night" or "Hounddog," this film has no redeeming value, nothing to be gleaned from the child's journey. Instead, it delivers titillation and shock for its own gratuitous sake. Chloë Grace Moretz is a lightning rod for controversy. In "Kick Ass," when she was 12, much was made at the time of expletives she spouted, including 'c*nt' (to the counterpoint of "(Banana Splits) Tra La La Song" - a jokey comparison of youthful innocence to gory adult reality). While shocking, her language added to the film and her character. In "Hick," the sole characteristic left from the male character's personalities is frothing at the mouth. They are simply scumbags with a lustful eye on a 13 year old's ass. They are abetted by Blake Lively, one of the least talented actresses in contemporary cinema. This film does little to tarnish that crown. Every tear thousands of children disappear as they walk home from school. Every year thousands of women all over the world are sexually harassed and raped. Those tackling this subject are forewarned to approach it with care and no compromise (like "Gardens of the Night"), for a misplaced cue, line of dialogue or swing of sympathy toward the perpetrators paints female victims as "asking for it." This is sadly the case in "Hick," a veritable blueprint for pedophiles. In tone, execution and conception, "Hick" is a reprehensible piece of trash - unless one gets their jollies watching a 13 year old in very short shorts and skimpy top be fed coke, nearly raped, sexually subjugated and bound on a bed.

This movie is a new state of the young popular actress. Though they play a few new duty so far, I feel spirit. It is a pleasure to watch the figure which such they challenged. I want you to take in a risk and the readiness that they play this as an actress above all. You see the new first page. The story is the beginning of a light feeling, but gradually worsens. There is the scene where I watch it as the same woman, and heart aches. But it is finally heartwarming development. May you follow progress to overturn expectation? Idc what anyone say this movie is amazing love the plot love the story it's deep but yet has a good meaning behind the storyline.portrayed the characters beautifully.

I like movies. I found it interesting in making a comparison between this film and Blue Velvet. It is kind of Lychian which is the reputation that led me to the film. It's an interesting experience in that context for me. I have only recently started up exploring David Lynch's films. But, I think I would have trouble enjoying the film without that specifc comparison, just like that I did not appreciate Blue Velvet at first. The two films resonate for me so that I have come to appreciate both. The acting seemed pretty good to me.

Hick, a low budget 2001 indie film where the young female protagonist, Chloë Grace Moretzone, gives a performance worthy of a dozen actors. Blake Lively supports this small heroine, breaking out of her standard type-casted role, to a feisty, raunchy, southern belle character with a deep psychological background that inches to surface. Would have liked to have seen a better established climax, but the ending stayed true to the story, which could very well be more non-fiction than fiction. All in all, worth watching for insight to alternate perspectives of society's standard of normalcy. .

If you want some lightweight comedy and do not have a very unique sense of humour, do not watch this movie. But even as a tough drama it is not a really interesting work. The basic setting has a lot of potential and I am sure the book is great, but in the movie the story just goes very fast new characters are introduced very fast and relations between characters are created in an instant without giving them time to develop. Due to a good soundtrack and performance by Chloë Grace Moretz Hick still managed to focus my attention till the end featuring several minor plot twists. I would recommend this movie only to the real Chloë Grace Moretz fans who want to see all of her works.
