I love long movies. But this story was definitely destined to be a short film. One in a compilation of many, perhaps. I would give it more stars if it was that. I get it. They used close-ups and fog all through the movie because of budget constraints. They could have done more by using the same budget for a much shorter movie (or indeed just a short film of about 35 minutes or less). The acting is fine, no issue with that. The camerawork is fine, although they were forced to use the minboggingly constant closeup shots. The soundtrack is fine, but again it would have worked if it was a short film. It just drones on. You glance at how far through the movie you got and it's a only half. Wow.
Well, without ever having heard about this 2024 sci-fi thriller titled "Light", I opted to sit down and watch it, as I stumbled upon it by random chance. I didn't really know what I was in for, but the movie's synopsis sounded interesting enough. Now, had I noticed that the movie had scored a staggering 2.7 rating here on IMDb prior to sitting down and watching it, I might have skipped on the movie entirely. However, I can understand why the movie has landed such a low rating, because this movie was a swing and a miss from writer and director Matt Woollard. The storyline is supposed to have an alien creature stalking a crash-landed mother on a dark planet. But instead of that, which actually was an interesting concept, we are treated to 93 minutes of close-ups of Christine Roche and Gia Lily's faces in some low budget space suits, with a purple filter added to the camera, while they are delivering monotone dialogue. Yeah, there was absolutely nothing interesting happening throughout the course of the movie. I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. Not that it really mattered, because the acting was severely restricted, as the actresses and actors virtually had nothing to work with. "Light" looks and feels like it was shot in a 5 foot by 5 foot stage, making it look very low key and low budget. If you enjoy sci-fi more than life itself, then you might get a kick out of watching writer and director Matt Woollard's 2024 movie. However, if you sit down to watch a movie with the intention of being entertained, then "Light" is not a movie that I would recommend you waste your precious time, money or effort on. Some of us suffered through this dumpster fire of a movie, so you don't have to; you're very welcome. My rating of "Light" lands on a very generous one out of ten stars.
I love SciFi movies. But after watching this, I'm not sure I want to waste my time EVER watching another. That's how bad this was. The back and forth half-communication to stir up drama was lacking. The plot, if you can call it that was subpar at BEST!! The story telling was choppy. After falling asleep in the movie, I rewound it to see what I missed, and I really could have just let it end. This was a waste of time and I literally had nothing else to do. They want me to use 600 words minimum in my review in order for it to be posted. There's literally nothing else I can say about this movie.
Just managed to make it through this steaming pile. Also just realised that it's released date was 1st April, which makes sense as it was a joke. A 4 key piano tune (if it qualifies as a tune) is supposed to convey suspense, terrible lighting meant at times I could ignore the picture completely and listen as I would do a radio play. I'd say the plot was terrible although I'm unsure it actually has one. I can see why some gave up before the end as I was tempted to leave it unfinished. If there was a budget for this then it was likely spent on smoke machines and torch batteries because that's all the effects this has to offer sadly.
Yeah, this is bad. Failed pop star Gia Lilly - yeah, I only looked it up because it lists her as "actor" and "songwriter" on here stars in the student project "Light" - a smart reference to the one light used in this to illuminate - thankfully the budget didn't stretch to two lights or the score would have been into negative stars. Anyway, Gia Lilly can't write songs, sing or act - but her agent's sunk some money into trying to make her famous and is trying to recoup some of that money before no doubt buying her a cheap flight to Eastern Europe where she can go work for Andrew Tate - I can't see her being particularly successful at that either though. "Micro-budget" indie, lol - badly made. It's fine to not have money in film making, but it does need talent and the team behind this really don't. Directing, script, etcetera are all really poor - if this was made by a bunch of teens you'd say it was a good effort, but I'd be disappointed. I made it to about 30 minutes before switching it off/putting something else on. I suspect those involved in this have a bright career ahead in the fast food service industry.
Deep sigh. Believe me I really didnt want to review this movie, but it was SUCH a disappointment that I had to WARN others who might make the mistake to actually pay for this cheap and inferior copycat. The bad: bring a search light, because this movie is SO incredibly sparsly lit (no pun intended) that you dont see much at all during the ENTIRE movie. Using dark lighting techniques is an effective way of covering up that there is no money available for good looking sets. But they went to the extreme with these dark looking sets. Terribly annoying to watch! The really bad: let's forget about the fact that one cant see anyhting, let's judge what we CAN see in the dark and that is these actors trying to perform in HELMETS all the time. Oh man, does this look silly. Please avoid. You have been warned. This is nothing more than a cheap and inferior copycat of other much better scifi movies.
I've never been impelled to review a movie with 30 minutes remaining, but I waited until the end and I just can't justify the $6.99 I paid to rent this low budget movie. I love sci-fi movies, but this is so very boring. No visuals, no suspense, and bad acting. Although probably intentional, this whole movie feels like it was made on a foggy day with car headlights for lighting in the background. Way too artsy for my taste. Some will love it, most will not. Personally, I couldn't wait until it was over and I could go to sleep. Time is precious. Don't waste your time. I was hoping for a little sci-fi meets a little horror. Oh well.
