Nothing new kind of boring movie,, no suspense and what I found most disgusting is that brother and sister both end up living together like husband and wife in the end. WTF?!!

Movies with anything related to an exorcism have it hard. That is of course especially true if you have seen the ultimate movie in exorcism - The Exorcist! There are some other horror movies that have themes of exorcism that are good, but I have yet to see one to match the quality of that 70s movie. Having said that, it would be unfair to judge an independent low budget movie with a classic. Try not to do that and you may be able to have fun watching this one. Because all things considered it is decent. It does not have Oscar worthy performances, but the actors are not really bad either. A few almost insane things happen, but overall this is still quite predictable ...

A weakly written script and unrealistic performance of the lead roles with quite intensive screenplay.

It is a good movie in low budget with great acting from all characters and also some horror scenes created in the movie.

Sarah Doyle (played by Monica Engesser), loses her daughter in a drowning accident and then her husband commits suicide. She later decides to move in with her brother (Richard Doyle played by Owen Conway) and gets possessed by a demon. Talk about having a bad luck streak. Anyway, that's the gist of The Covenant, my latest review. Not to be confused with 2006's film harboring the same title, "Covenant" has some incestuous moments that reminded me of 1981's Amityville II: The Possession. In fact, director Robert Conway turns The Covenant into cinematic potluck ripping off movies like Paranormal Activity, The Exorcist (the concluding bedroom scene feels totally copied), The Conjuring, and the aforementioned "Possession". Technically, his direction isn't awful yet his flick is spoofed, trashy, and cheesy to a fault. He trades jump scares for ghastly images and quick, banal flashbacks. He then squanders detailed special effects for low budgeting. Bottom line: "Covenant's" tag-line reads, "EVIL HAS DESCENDED". It should say, "EVIL HAS FAILED TO TRANSCEND". Natch. Now I haven't mentioned the level of acting in The Covenant and for good reason. I wanted to wait till later on in this review. Guess what, it's bad. It's so bad in fact that the casting agent might have pulled people off the street and propelled them straight into the unions. I mean, have you ever heard of Laura Durant, Clint James, or Maria Olsen before? Neither have I. In all fairness, nobody comes off like Laurence Olivier in a usual horror film but this is a whole different arena. Everyone in "Covenant" reads their lines as if they are looking at cue cards or saying them in the rhythm of pentameter. With the exception of Owen Conway (mentioned earlier) at least trying to do something with his character (he occasionally reacts and rages), The Covenant comes off like a middling, film school project. It has standardized visuals and gives the impression that it's destined for entry in some seedy flick fest via Podunk, Iowa ("Podunk" is a term that represents any small, insignificant town). In conclusion, if movies about demonic platitudes, evil spirits, and bloody entities are new to you then you might get a kick out of "Covenant's" carefully common plotting. And if you've never seen a twist ending, never viewed a man trouper cutting his tongue out, or never seen a woman trouper gouging her eyes with her own two hands, then The Covenant might give you the creeps. Otherwise, this is assembly line stuff, devoid of freshness and destined never to a get wide release in the states. My rating: 2 stars.

I do not want to be too long, therefore I just want help who s choosing the movie with some no-spoiler key points: 1) It's kind of low budget movie, with some implantation from many other horror movies, not very well assembled 2) this cause a miss of suspense and adrenaline, in scenes where Director could do better 3) actors are not that bad, however their characters don't have the chance to be deepened along the story. 4) I did appreciate Clint James I guess He did as much as he could. 5) The worst thing is that this movie is missing the climax, mandatory for a kind of movies like this ones, letting the watcher with an unpleasant feeling of the overall story. Generally I wouldn't suggest this movie to anyone, but I definitively cannot say it has been the worst low budget movie I have seen. But is it low budget? I hope it is, but very far from good works like IT Follows.

It's actually an OK possession / exorcism movie for the most part, until the ending. In the ending, the quality drops down significantly - idiotic cumbersome fight along with amateur editing, really poor visual effects with samely poor camera work. Not to mention the ridiculous ending scene. I don't know what happened, but until that point it was a decent indie movie with great casting, good acting and some memorable scenes (like the sex scene). Seems to be one of these many, many indie movies whose creators just can't end their movies so they come with something fast and just call it a day.

When Lizzy (Amelia Haberman) who has Leukemia dies in a freak tub drowning accident, the father Adam (Chris Mascarelli) blames his wife Sarah (Monica Engesser) for her death and then kills himself, which would have been my second choice in that situation. About a year later Sarah and her brother Richard (co-writer Owen Conway) move into their parent's old house in the village of Globe, Arizona which has a Gino's Pizza that isn't very good. (Please note Papa Gino, I think your Pizza's are the best, so don't kill the messenger.) While they are in the house, things start to happen as Richard becomes concerned for Sarah and the bad plumbing. Now I am not sure why Richard and Sarah are both named Doyle. I know they are brother and sister, but she got married. Did she keep her maiden name? Did she change it back? Or maybe she married a guy whose last name was Doyle and Doyle-Doyle would look silly. This still remains a mystery. The title "The Covenant" is a bit of a plot spoiler, although you can basically figure things out. However, we never really see this "covenant" outside of the guy who pops in and out of scenes (Richard Lippert). Maria Olsen who sports that inbred look was the type cast religious neighbor. The film had a couple of things I dislike: demon voice distorter and canned restaurant noises in a sparsely filled bar. These are normally used on one-star films. Apparently the production blew its budget on getting real actors (thank you) and winged it on effects. Guide: F-word, brief sex, nudity (Monica Engesser)

Trailer was catchy and the movie started all okay, but i think the story didn't make any sense to me. Who was the evil spirit ? Daughter or Old man in a suit or possession in their house ? That old man was talking to her brother via phone , Wt.. and what is dead daughter role with evil. And many other things which doesn't make any sense. Very stupid story.

I went in with low expectations and this exceeded them. One of the better in the ever-growing crop of satanic mythology. This one even has something close to a twist in it but no spoilers here. If you like Christian good-v-evil movies, give it a look. You can even root for the bad guy.
