You have a mother who's torn with grief about the loss of her son that creates a whole new life in her world of pain, with some very elaborate details, some of which that doesn't fit her narrative leaving you somewhat bewildered. But in her coming to grips with her "reality" the story only reveals that she is far worse than just a grieving mother. By no means is this a horror but a story about a mother who suffers with delusions of grief grandeur. The story's premise falls into the category of that of The Sixth Sense where nothing is what it appears to be. Overall a one time watch.

Some fun spookiness, shades of Wicker Man, the Omen... all in service of a profoundly stupid and disappointing third act. I am actively angry that I watched this.

This film start with a family talking in the car, and they having a car accident scene! As turnout, this film is about a mother "Rachel" keep imagining she have another son "Elliot", after her only son "Nathan" killed in a car accident! Entire film full of boring conversation, and annoying overuse scene! Such as, overuse of the walking scene, overuse of the running scene, overuse of the arguing scene, overuse of the calling names scene, overuse of the staring scene, overuse of the drinking scene, overuse of the eating scene, overuse of the sleeping scene, overuse of the waking up scene, overuse of the dreaming scene, overuse of the flashbacks scene, overuse of the jump scare scene, overuse of the riding boat scene, overuse of the blackout scene, overuse of the long angle scenery scene, overuse of the snowing scene, overuse of the song playing at the background scene, and overuse of the driving scene! Make the film unwatchable! At the end, Rachel still imagining she have two sons after she accidentally kill her husband "Anthony"! That's it! Wasting time to watch!

This is a type of movie you don't care about the ending because you don't care about the characters or what is going on. Twist turns roll over , play dead sit down get up and turn around. The End.

Watching this "new" film, I kept getting that nagging feeling that I've already seen it. You know the feeling; you find a movie and you tell yourself, "This looks interesting! I'll give it a shot!" only to find yourself getting 10-20 minutes in and realizing, yes, I've seen this already, but it was so bad that your mind completely forgot it did? Well, I haven't seen this film before, but everything about it was so damn familiar, like a Frankenstein's monster mix of so many other (much better) films. It starts out with the death of a child, then turns into A rosemary's baby of sorts, then it veers off into psychological horror territory and the whole time I'm thinking, "Who was this movie made for". It wasn't scary, it wasn't eerie, it was actually ultimately quite sad. In the end, the movie does a complete 180 degree that gets to an ending that could be seen from a mile away, but the lead up was so disjointed and flawed that you start to wonder if it was a mishmash of more than one script to try and salvage a decent enough film from their mutilated corpse? It's just so baffling to me that a movie that was obviously inspired by so many good films could still fail this badly. It's shocking really. Ultimately, this movie is about a man who would sacrifice his own life to help the woman he loved. It's not about children or their mother. It's about a man who suffered in silence while his whole family was taken from him. He put on a brave face, like so many men like him do, and entered the battlefield of mental illness. He wasn't prepared, though. Like so many before him, he had to sacrifice his life in order for the people he loved to face reality (and in the case of this movie, it's still not enough). Overall, ask yourself; Am I looking for a horror movie? Don't watch this. Am I looking for a creepy cult film? Don't watch this. Am I looking for a good ghost story? Don't watch this. Am I looking for a depressing story about mental illness and how some men are utterly destroyed, in silence, trying to help those they love? Then, and only then, would you want to watch this miserable movie. Everyone else, just don't even bother.

The Twin has it all: the would-be writer, his depressed and traumatized wife and their little kid moving to an old remote house after a family tragedy, the little kid acting more and more creepy, surly old villagers, the single local who seems to know something but won't talk until towards the climax and then becomes a huge exposition dump, an overarching satanic conspiracy and The Big Twist Ending That Explains Everything. And it's not done well, too. The plot and the editing are all over the place. The big twist doesn't work at all either because it's extremely cliched. You can easily guess what it is simply from the fact that the story is about bereaved mother. For those thinking that the supposed Finnish flavor might make the movie more palatable and interesting: it does not. For all intents and purposes, this is a bog-standard Hollywood movie; and the director and the staff being Finnish and the setting being Finland do not factor at all (except for a touch of pagan folklore that I don't think reflects well or authentically on Finland). For all intents and purposes, this movie might have been set in Maine. One more thing: Just before this one, I saw an actual Finnish horror movie (Hatching). It was all modern, Instagram-obsessed families and pristine Volvos. Here, it's all beat-up old cars, seemingly Soviet-era and ugly villagers who are dressed like they live in 1950s. In other words, a typical Hollywood depiction of a remote European location. I think the Finns made a big mistake on this one.
