My personal opinion of this movie is that it was pretty cheesy, but just because it's not "Hollywood" doesn't make it a bad movie. It had a limited budget, and it's a straight-to-DVD release. The story is typical, sure. The acting is kind of rough. My problem with all the naysayers is that most old western movies weren't a whole lot better. 6 Guns is no 3:10 to Yuma, but like I said... limited budget and resources. The lead parts were likable, but human. The bad guys are mean and terrible, but they are still human. If you rent this movie, don't expect an epic western, just expect a decent way to burn a couple hours. The key to enjoying this movie is to not take it in the same way you would take in a Hollywood blockbuster with a $27 million budget.

I was expecting this movie to be hell of a lot worse than what it was. I can honestly say that I liked 6 Guns. Being that the story is a revenge western, the viewer knows exactly where the film is going throughout its running time. However, despite how generic the story is, there were a few things that I did not see coming which are worth pointing out: _ a relationship between 2 characters does not go in the direction typical of these types of stories. _ most of the climactic gun battle is carried out by a minor character. The movie also flows very well; I didn't find it slow moving at all. As the title of this review says, 6 Guns turned out to be a nice surprise & I will not be quick to judge anything with the names Geoff Meed or Shane Van Dyke before watching it.

Not sure what makes this Western genre offering from The Asylum so surprisingly decent. My guess is pure mathematics. When it doesn't have to spend money on special effects from bargain-basement CGI house Tiny Juggernaut, The Asylum can devote those same dollars to scriptwriting, direction and location scenery. This is essentially a mockbuster of the new "True Grit," with Barry Van Dyke unconvincing in the Jeff Bridges role and cutie pie nobody Sage Mears in the Hailee Steinfeld part, rewritten here as an alcoholic milf who hires Van Dyke to help her seek revenge against the bad guys who raped her and murdered her husband and children. It's not his fault, but Barry looks so much like his father Dick, it's hard to take him seriously as a rough bounty hunter. You half expect him to burst into "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" in every scene. And because he must have some sort of contract that says he appears in every third Asylum movie, Greg Evigan shows up as an old, fat, useless sheriff who only serves to remind us baby boomers how old, fat and useless we've gotten since "My Two Dads" too. It's true the weaponry here is anachronistic and the money shown in the poker game scene is too modern. And yeah, pretty much every cowboy in this movie rides his horse like it's the first time he's ever been on one. But really, even the most authentic of Westerns have always been revisionist fantasies. The Asylum isn't asking too much when requiring we take this one with an extra grain of salt. Why? Because ultimately, it works. For some reason, "6 Guns" works as a whole to create a harmless cowboy flick that's better than you would expect from the king of direct-to-DVD cheese. After all, this is the company that gave us "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus," so I think we need to count the few blessings The Asylum throws us.

The acting was worst than a middle school Drama Club. Sock puppets show more emotion than anyone in the cast. The town and props were abysmal. In the days before Cowboy Action Shooting you could have gotten away with this due to cost, but when there is a cottage industry dedicated to making quality western wear at affordable prices, the only plus was nobody was wearing Levi's and Lace-up Justin Ropers. Nothing about this movie was worth watching it for free. I should have spent the time poking a mean dog with a sharp stick. P.S. Sage Mears should look into *, but I don't think she has the acting chops.

rickycuaca23/05/23 04:45

Really. What did you expect for a buck at Redbox? OK. So maybe Sage Mears might have shown more emotion after losing a nail than she showed after her family was massacred before her very eyes. But aren't most westerns a bit comical looking? It was a bit refreshing to watch a flick with no vampires or thumbscrews. The acting? It was decent. The story. Sure. Totally unoriginal. But Barry van Dyke pulled off the role of the reclusive moody aging gunslinger and the baddies were downright unlikeable. Please. Those who play the "worst movie ever" card too frequently will find the rest of us tuning you out. Lighten up and enjoy a simple story cheaply made.

If i could rate this less than 1 I would. This is the WORST movie ever made. The actors are not fit for a cheap Canadian 3:00 am WE BUY GOLD commercial. The main character (wannabe Marlboro man) and the beautiful, sexy, but shockingly talentless female costar prove that there was no effort put forward whatsoever from the casting agents. The accents were more 2010 Kardashian family than 19th century wild west. THe best actor was the Lee Horn character and the Mexican guy with the cigar which was disturbingly amusing. The plot less storyline, this movie is a total disaster. I want my 95 minutes back. Story: Weak Plot: Nonexistent Authenticity: None Acting: Horrendous Action: Cheap

Epphy23/05/23 04:45

Can't say anything positive about this movie. The acting is wooden and strained, plot is thin and to have the 'hero' get less baddies than the woman is odd too. There is a part of the story where one of the baddies is across the street in a deserted town virtually and is show with a rifle. Now, that would make a very distinctive sound in a dead town but not one of the baddies even notices and goes to investigate. A bit of reality would be nice to give this film any credibility and without any decent storyline and poor 'cry-acting' from the leading woman which at one point, wasn't sure if she was going to laugh or cry when 'hero' shoved her against a wall! It is amazing how the stereotypical gunslinger with little personality though, appears to be mortally wounded near the end only to have an arm injury!!! Avoid this C Movie that makes Django look good!

Ahmad Jaber23/05/23 04:45

Soo... What we have here. Typical low budget movie with typical western theme of revenge. Action: You get your share of shootout, no worries about that. Though pace of the movie is slow. Plot: 2 dimensional. Stereotypical. Nothing original. Acting: Almost non-presented. What we learn from the movie: 1) Sage Mears is beautiful. VERY beautiful. 2) She will never get an Oscar. NEVER. 3) To look as cool western hero, you must try to be as emotionless as possible and talk as little as possible, and never mind if time to time you look dumb because of that, instead of looking cool. If you decide to watch this movie: 1) Ignore the plot holes. 2) Ignore all the pointless characters. 3) Lower your expectations to not be disappointed.

If you could make a movie about what really happened in Arizona in the late 19th century and what people really did and how they lived, not the polished, John Wayne type of movie, this would be it. The acting was rough. The dialog was rough. The reality was amazing. Real people doing real things. I liked it. It was refreshing. The score was great - not too intrusive with the perfect mix and not there at all when the scene was supposed to be silent like during a desert panorama! I could see myself and my family doing the same things those people did. The bad people were not entirely bad and good people were not entirely good. There is dirt and dust and weeds and heroes and cowards and plain folk just like real life. The horses sweat and so do the people.

I liked the movie. Very graphic and yet credible bad guys, who are very bad indeed. Very decent good guy. Extremely motivated female lead. Happy ending (which seemed impossible earlier in the film). The portrayal of the general public's reaction to the bad guys (lie, try to get on their "good side" which they utterly lack; pray for help from "the government"; hide under the bed) EXACTLY fits almost all people as I know them. My own experiences with somewhat similar situations - confronting deadly peril- are more like the female lead's as to skills but I have repeatedly acted as the heroes did and, like them, am still around whereas some of the real-life characters I had to deal with are not. NOT for children or even teenagers IMHO!
