Bon film !
For a seventies/eighties era kung fu film, its good. It has interesting costumes, weapons, and action. It is the best Shaw Bros. film I have seen so far. This film is jammed packed with fights and never has a dull moment. The only thing bad about it is some moments where the wirework was unbelievable.
'Superb'. 'Masterpiece'. 'King of Kung Fu'. These are just some of the superlatives used to describe this Film. Are we talking about the same film? This indeed is a 'Masterpiece'. A 'Masterpiece' in how not to make a Kung Fu film. Rubbish Actors, A Dire Plotline, Embarrassing Acting, Cringe infesting Fight Chorography and Wooden Props. So it has all the ingredients needed for a Cult Classic. You would be better of giving your hard earned £s to charity than Rent (or Buy) this time waster.
I saw Super Ninjas years ago and it kicked butt. I especially loved the tree Ninjas and the Earth Ninjas that came out of the ground. They rule. The weapons were also cool. That other Doug guy should say where he got his copy. The best line in the movie is "Loss of a fight means loss of one's life to a samurai. Give it an action packed 10 out of 10.
Director Cheh Chang who also created other classic Shaw Brothers martial arts flicks, Boxer from Shantung 1972, Golden Swallow 1968, The Heroic Ones 1970, Men from the Monastery 1974, The New One-Armed Swordsman 1971, The One-Armed Swordsman 1967, Return of the One-Armed Swordsman 1969, Crippled Avengers 1978, Shaolin Temple 1976 and Vengeance 1970 has created another gem in Five Element Ninja. Starring Meng Lo who has also been in other classic flicks, Hard-Boiled 1992 and Cheh Chang's Crippled Avengers and Shaolin Temple. Also starring Iien Hsiang Lung. Also starring Tien-chi Cheng. I enjoyed the fight scenes and the violence. If you enjoyed this as much as I did then check out other classic Shaw Brothers martial arts flicks, Come Drink with Me 1966, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin 1978, The Chinese Boxer 1970, 5 Fingers of Death 1972, Eight Diagram Pole Fighter 1984, The Killer 1972, Killer Clans 1976, The Magic Blade 1976, The Avenging Eagle 1978, Killer Constable 1980 and Heroes of the East 1978.
There's nothing bad to say about this movie. Lots of violence, lots of gore, Lo Meng, cool ninjas, cool weapons, a great plot, lots of action start to finish. There is only one problem. This movie is very hard to find. But if you do find it, get it you won't be sorry. It took me 13 years to find it and it was worth the search. Really well choreographed fight scenes. It's just awesome. The five element ninjas scenes alone are worth the price. Find it! Watch it!!!!!
I remember seeing this movie as a kid and thinking it was the best Kung-Fu movie I had ever seen. I recently saw it on sale and purchased it,not knowing if it was going to be as good as I remembered. It was better! The fight scenes are fantastic and the story keeps you interested. There are some scenes that made me laugh out loud, but that's to be expected from a low budget Chop-Sockey flick. The different weapons and fighting styles are what keeps the story going and the elements (gold, wood, fire, water, earth) are really a force to reckon with. This movie isn't to be taken seriously, have fun with it. If you do like this movie, check out "Five Deadly Venoms".
Before I even knew the name Shaw Bros. I was a fan. I saw this movie many years ago on a t.v. series Black Belt Theater. The 5 elements are unique and add some of the fun to this movie. If you are a fan of old Kung Fu movies, do yourself a favor and pick this up on DVD. The quality isn't great, but it does have a nice mini-filmography of the actors in the movie.
It all started when I turned 9 and was allowed to stay up past midnight and watch VHS movies with some friends...The previous day I had skulked the local video store and found a beat up half sun baked faded video named"Chinese Super Ninjas." All I can say is that title does not lie. Since then I've converted all my friends (and family) Into the glory that is "Wu dun ren shu." Years later my wife even rented out the local Art House Theater and screened it for my 25th Birthday party. It was glorious, and I soon found myself in tears fighting life size projections of my personal heroes. Who can forget?!? "I've been poisoned, I can't use my powers for three months." "Don't do it! Losing is not unusual!" "I'm unworthy!" (Slices jugular with tinfoil axe) The dirt (earth) ninjas The tree ninjas (the one in the McDonald's playground tree) The dripping thigh bacon (then stepping on it!) The wonderful Shaw gore, sets, and sound effects And so much more Story ** Cinematography * Entertainment ***** Lasting Impression *****
Kung Fu isn't exactly my thing so this probably isn't fair but I thought it was below average. The story was non-sense. The costumes were non-sense. Basically everything was non-sense. It was action packed though and at times the action sucked but at times it was decently choreographed. My favorite part is how the Kung Fu master dude got poisoned by the ninjas and he claims he's gotta wait 3 months to do Kung Fu then in a different scene the ninja fella says the same thing like it's common knowledge.
