The TV series The Nightingale, created by an unlisted creator and produced by an unlisted studio, first premiered on February 3, 2015 in an unspecified country. The series spans 0 seasons with 0 episodes, featuring the voices of an unlisted voice cast. It follows the story of Publisher's Summary Audie Award, Fiction, 2016 In love we find out who we want to be. In war we find out who we are. France, 1939 In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianne Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn’t believe that the Nazis will invade France...but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks and tanks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive. Vianne’s sister, Isabelle, is a rebellious eighteen-year-old girl, searching for purpose with all the reckless passion of youth. While thousands of Parisians march into the unknown terrors of war, she meets Gäetan, a partisan who believes the French can fight the Nazis from within France, and she falls in love as only the young can...completely. But when he betrays her, Isabelle joins the Resistance and never looks back, risking her life time and again to save others. With courage, grace and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of WWII and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France--a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime. ©2015 Kristin Hannah (P)2015 Macmillan Audio. This is a Literature & Fiction series and has received a rating of 9.6/10 from 82,995 viewers.

Read only if romance novels are your cup of tea. This one is better than most of that genre, but that's not saying much.

What disappointed you about The Nightingale? The characters were entirely unbelievable and predicable.Would you ever listen to anything by Kristin Hannah again? Not likely. How could the performance have been better?Should have been less breathy and whineyWhat reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment? Who cares.

One of the best stories I've heard in a long time- powerful enough to bring tears to my eyes with an ending that can be applied to everyone's life.

Loved the story and the narrator! This helped me understand what so many people went through during WWI ad WWII.

The narrator's voice seemed mechanical at times, and this may sound silly, but the almost whistling sound made when she pronounced the letter 's' made the story unpleasant and difficult to listen to at times. Additionally, the accents she attempted were poorly done...better not to have attempted them. Otherwise, the storyline was moving.

Any additional comments?I loved this story and definitely cried more than a few times. Polly Stone did an amazing job with all the different characters. I didn't want it to end.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? The story was redundant - after several hours of listening to the same "dramatic" and "tense" actions being experienced by the the two main characters I finally gave up and stopped listening. Would you be willing to try another one of Polly Stone’s performances? No. - There is something about her pitch & tone that is unpleasing to me.In addition, her attempts at both the French and German accent are terrible. You didn’t love this book...but did it have any redeeming qualities? Not really.Any additional comments?A bad choice on my behave…I should have taken the advice of the prior reviewers. :(

I first fell in love with Kristin Hanna's books when I read Firefly Lane several years ago and have since enjoyed most of her other novels (with the exception of Night Road, which was just overwhelmingly depressing).I preordered this book simply because it was hers.I have to say I was slightly disappointed.Normally I am sucked in from beginning to end and am very upset when the book is over. With this book, I got a little bored and didn't bother to continue listening to it after my commute was over (like I often do with her other novels).I think it was partly because I didn't like Isabelle very much and partly because I found it a little slow.I obviously still found it pretty good, but if you are looking for a WWII-set novel of Hannah's, I enjoyed Winter Garden much more.
