7.8 stars. I really like the lead actress in "Made for Each Other" and I really hope to see more of her in the future. She needs to become a Hallmark regular for sure. In this story she plays a sculptor who is down on her confidence due to several rejections of her works to be accepted more widely in the art community. She has fashioned a beautiful man sculpture, and she wishes so fervently that he was real that he actually comes to life, and is the perfect man. She has had difficulties dating men, because she is very picky, artsy, cynical, and sarcastic...all traits that might send any suitor running for the door. She happens to fall for a comedian while she's fallen for her sculpted golem man. You have to watch it to understand, because while this might be confusing, it's what transpires in this intriguing film. Chemistry is amazing, the acting is amazing, the variety of characters are all well rehearsed and work very well together. This is almost a must see. I love the comedy fun interactions between the leads and the golem is a funny genius dud. Again, you have to see it to understand. Lovely and original take on Pygmalion they say. I suppose it is circuitously so.
This thinly disguised remake of the 2011 Hallmark film "Holly's Holiday" gives a Jewish AND gender twist to the Pygmalion story, and manages to mangle every aspect of it despite some deft humor. It has an edgier feel than most Hallmark offerings in places, but completely blows it with one of the stupidest, most unbelievable, badly staged endings in Hallmark history. When will Hallmark learn that the public airing of the romantic finale in front of a fawning audience is a real turn off? No doubt die hard fans of the channel will laud it to the skies, but more sane observers will wonder why they watched it at all.
Made for Each Other is a riff on the "invented boyfriend" trope, except in this case, the boyfriend isn't pretending due to some deal, but magically created via ancient magic from a sculpture! And let me say early on we laughed out LOUD at lot during this movie. Arron O'Connell, who plays the sculpture come to life--named "Clay" :-)--folds himself into the role of the perfect man amusingly. Thus the writers get away with a "Gary Stu", the perfect character who can do no wrong. We've seen Matt Cohen on the other side of this trope, playing a Jewish actor playing the female leads' boyfriend whom she takes home for Christmas. We think that movie is a hoot, too. Teryl Rothery had a long run as the base doctor on Stargate SG-1, but she's transitioned nicely into playing motherly types in Hallmark films. Here she plays the Jewish mother with an agenda for her daughter ... get married ... and marry a PROVIDER. We haven't seen Alexandra Turshen before, but she provided some truly amusing moments herself.
Made For Each Other is a 2023 Romantic Fantasy Comedy starring Alexandra Turschen,Matt Cohen and Aaron O Connell. A young sculptor named Rachel(Turschen) dreams of making it big with her art. But she also wants to find the perfect man. With her overbearing mother wanting her to meet someone,Rachel somehow makes a wish to get a perfect man and the next day he shows up at her art studio. This perfect man however is really a sculpt that she created. Now going by Clay Goldfisher(O Connell) everything between her and him starts off great, until she falls for her comedic friend David(Cohen). Now she must choose who she really loves the perfect model looking guy that has a passion for food (Clay) or the aloof comedic (David). Overall this wasn't the best Hallmark movie I've seen. The acting is average, the plot has been done many times before(Mannequin 1 and 2 and the DCOM How To Build A Better Boy) and the premise was silly. Also the actress playing Rachel ger eyebrows were so distracting as they were giving me Cara DeLavinge vibes.
Teryl Rothery, what were you thinking? How did you get roped into this role? The mother of the lead can be very bad, in the sense of too controlling, but this performance is ridiculous. Rothery is so much better than this. And the thing is that there is no reason this part had to be played so badly. Except for Rothery, the bride's husband, and David's nephew, the rest of the acting was mostly good. Aaron O'Connell's Clay could have been easy to overplay, but O'Connell walked a fine line between too naive and being normal. Obviously Clay can't be normal, but neither is he too ridiculous. A few times, he goes just a little bit silly and then recovers before it gets too far. I thought Alexandra Turshen and Matt Cohen had good chemistry. This is another tough situation because their screen time together was cut into by the time with Rachel and Clay and for that matter David and Clay. The story was not as predictable as I expected. The premise of a statue coming to life in order to be the perfect mate seems like it is going to go in an obvious direction, and in this case that part was unavoidable, but the way it was done was fresh. The subtext of needing challenges in life rather than everything going perfectly was nicely folded into the story without being too preachy. The climax was a little wild which fit the story perfectly. The dialogue was very good. I don't laugh at much on TV, but I got a few good ones between the standup and the banter. All the good stuff is in Acts II and III, so don't give up on it.
This movie was hilariously bad. It seems like the makers of this movie understood the idea of hilariously bad movies because a lot of other Hallmark movies are just cheesy bad or painfully cheesy bad. I honestly laughed out loud many times while watching this. And not during the stand up comedy sets, oh boy those were painful. Lots of overacting. Her sister's fiancee for example. And that ending was really something else. A lot of people are complaining about Teryl Rotherys' character but I thought she was very funny. And last but not least, Clay was the star of this movie. I need a sequel but with him as the main character.
I had a blast watching this with my family, a very fun premise that was set up well. I'm not going to lie, the first 15 minutes were hit or miss, kind of off to a rocky start, a little bit silly, you have to to establish the characters and everything, expecting some tropes here and there, seeing this handsome dude emerge from her workspace, based off a real Jewish golem tradition thing. (that I know nothing about) but when the ball started rolling, it was actually quite an enjoyable movie to watch. All the characters are written well with believable and convincing motivations. They are all different and unique in their own way, rather than them being one dimensional. I love the overall message of following your passion to see where it leads you, loving the process of developing your hobby into a potential career. I love how they address fear in this film, especially with the protagonist being reluctant to submit her art. The core theme is going for your goals and aspirations. You see the conflicting perspectives of two guys as they both "compete" for the girl, which is very entertaining. The "perfect" guy, wants to sacrifice everything for the girl, while the other normal dude, wants to push her so she can be the best version of herself. It's comfort versus progress, it's a great little balance they play with, throughout the film. Also the ending climax just gets better and better, "the plot thickens," that line broke the 4th wall lol. Anyways, so yeah, great movie, I would definitely recommend. Wonderful choice for the whole family. Only complaint is that the beginning is a little slow, but everybody in this movie did an amazing job! Hallmark is increasing their quality I've noticed, keep it up!
I really looked forward to this movie but I was super disappointed with it. It was so bad I had to stop watching it after about thirty minutes. There was absolutely NO chemistry between any of the characters and bad acting all around. The thing that was worse than the acting was the writing. The mother was too overbearing and self centered, with no concern for the daughters feelings. The daughter did not have enough intestinal fortitude face her mother and stop her from trying to set her up. The story rambled and the fantasy was unreal. Teryl Rothery and Aaron O'Connell were the only actors I have seen before and I have seen much better work from both of them.
