I recently checked this one out, because not only was the poster aesthetically pleasing to a slasher fan like myself, but I am a sucker for the "scarecrow/burlap" masked loons. I really enjoyed this one, it seemed to have a "timeless" vibe that could have easily set it in the 80', this movie works as a throwback without hyping itself up over the idea of being a "throwback.The acting is good and the kills are even better.The cinematography alone showcases the reason to visit the Scottish countryside,amazing shots of the dense forests and surrounding areas. I read some reviews and people seemed to be expecting something from a slasher movie that slasher movies are not known for---> Oscar caliber acting? Oscar winning screenplay? No, you will not have that here, it is called The Redwood Massacre, and you get A BLOODY MASSACRE! I read the slasher, who is billed as "Evil Highlander" has his own toy and will be featured in a comic book as a cameo, I say bring it on! Easily one of the better modern slasher movies, iconic villain with a campfire story origin...it works!

On the 20th anniversary of the Redwood massacre, 5 young adults opt to visit the farmhouse, located in Scotland. Mark (Adam Coutts) is with his new annoying girlfriend (Lisa Livingstone) who loathes the wilderness as well as being with Mark's catty ex-girlfriend (Rebecca Wilkie). This is another slasher film with a killer who apparently resurrects like Jason, wears a burlap mask like the Texarkana Killer, and eats his victims alive like Hannibal. Pardon my feeling of Deja Vu while watching this slasher which does not distinguish itself either in the plot, acting, dialogue or characters. Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Plenty of blood.

I agree with other reviews the people deserve to die. There's a psycho killer. My friends are dead. So let's just snoop around a bit instead of running for our lives. Or let's just stand there instead of running or fighting and let them kill you. Wow.

This is a complete rip off of a Psycho Holocaust (2009)!! Far too many similarities... including the prowess and demeanor of the characters. In the movie making biz, movies come from a novel, comic, re-make or old TV show... There are so very few originals out there. The last bastion of hope is to copy/steal others ideas in order to make their own. Psycho Holocaust wasn't an award winner, but it was Original based off of horror genre from the 70's/80's. And to steal it's likeness, story, character and feel of what was created is THEFT... If the idea was taken from a big budget Hollywood cut, there would be massive lawsuits. In Short, I see no reason to see this film, as I've already seen the Original!

"The Redwood Massacre" has a pretty cool story. It does seem to piece together some elements of many classic horror mythos that came before, but the Redwood legend doesn't feel like a rip off (at least it didn't to me). It just uses the best components of the slasher construct and builds a really nice, dark, origin story for this truly intimidating killer. The direction and acting are straightforward with scenes and staging that screams traditional horror. For me the film is as fun in its own modern way as "Madman" and "The Burning" were the first time I saw them. "The Redwood Massacre" moves full force from the beginning to the end in an almost nonstop killing spree of visceral carnage. The special effects and soundtrack keep with the darker, more grindhouse feel. That is a slight deviation from the classic slasher styles like "Friday The 13th" and is more closely related to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". This film has a more contemporary atmosphere to it with the choice of music it uses. Not sure what the feeling is but much like "Hostel" made me almost uncomfortable with the instrumental that was chosen-especially during the bloody kill scenes, is much like the feeling I got watching this film. Just an unapologetic show of brutality coupled with some gore-rich special effects and blood splatter. I don't think I have seen to many UK/British slashers show the bloody bits as full on as "The Redwood Massacre" does. ( ? ) Overall I enjoyed the film. Although the story was built on well established beliefs surrounding the "slasher" as monster, the actual Redwood legend is a nice, disturbing and believable story. The blood and gore (and there is a lot of it) is well put together and in your face. The killer is recognizable and familiar to the slasher genre but brought to life in a very original, creative way that doesn't feel copycat. It is just a really fun and brutal slasher that stays serious with very little satire or "comic relief". I was a bit annoyed at the end with the final bit of dialog but the way it ends suggests a sequel so I liked that aspect. I think fans of slasher and gore will enjoy this film. It really is a return to the classic horror that most of us grew up on in the early 80's.

For five adventurous friends, visiting the legendary murder site of the Redwood House has all the hallmarks of being an exciting and thrilling camping weekend away. A popular site for revellers and party goers, each year on the exact date of the famous local family massacre, people from around the country head out to the site to have fun and scare each other. Events take a bloody turn for the worse when the innocent campers discover the Redwood legend is in fact a horrible bloody reality, which turns the unsuspecting victims into prey for a mysterious axe wielding maniac that has remained dormant for 20 years. . .
