The son of an active soldier goes through a hard phase of his life. After his father dies, he has to learn to control his temper and work with a team (not as a lone wolf that he is) in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a lacrosse champion. He's about to quit but he receives some unexpected help from a friend of his father's which will prove to be decisive in his near future. It's a pretty ordinary movie which features a special teenager with problems of his own which has to overcome his condition in order to achieve his goal and, of course, get the girl. A typical story, with typical characters and a predictable course of events. It's a good and enjoyable movie which unfortunately fails to deliver something special to raise it from the crowd.

I'm so happy that there is officially a second lacrosse film that came out after "Crooked Arrows". "The Grizzlies" is another lax film I'm looking forward to checking out soon and add it into my reviews here on IMDB. Hopefully now the lax films will become more commonplace. As for the film itself, I liked the plot and all but there are 2 things that needs mentioning: 1) I didn't see why they had to add a military element into this one. What I mean is having marine corps soldiers and all that. It appeared that Kellan Lutz's character was already well disciplined from the start despite his angry tirade there when smashing up the trophy case. He was just mad that he lost his father and he took it out on everyone around him. I know what that feels from first-hand experience when my parents divorced and I ended up being mad at the world for the longest time. I just never saw any connection between lacrosse and the marine corps. 2) Toward the end there when they went to sudden death overtime where each team only had their goalie and a runner. Normally, that would never happen since lacrosse is never played that way, even in overtime. I really don't know WHY they did that. I was quite surprised when I saw that but it was only done for the film since someone in the filming crew wanted to try something different. I think this film deserves a 9 out of 10.

This review is quite late but since I did happen to like the movie, I am reviewing this. Basically the story is about a cocky lacrosse player who lost his dad due to an accident while serving for the navy. Since then, Conner (played by Kellen lutz) sort of rebelled and decided to go lone wolf. He moved from his home town to a new one (One I forgot the name of) and joined the lacrosse team. He was disappointed to learn though that the couch of his new school's team did in fact value team sportsmanship, something Conner did not have. Conner has a few breakdowns, breaks the school's trophy case, and gets suspended from school and kicked off the lacrosse team. From there, he gets help from a friend of his father who teaches Conner sportsmanship and team leading through tedious labor. Conner learns the history of lacrosse as well. Although the movie is enjoyable and somewhat informational (lacrosse was portrayed somewhat wrong in the movie then how it is in real life), it is very predictable for lacrosse fans and oplayers. During the middle, the movie gets boring with all the scenes of Conner finding himself and whatnot. Towards the end though, it does get more enjoyable with the ending game scene that was pretty cool to see. When I say predictable, I mean that in the sense that people who know a lot about lacrosse will most likely figure out how Conner gets back on the team and what would happen in the game scene during the end of the movie. The checking/slashing in the movie was pretty spot on, although the moves made in the movie were a lot less practiced and were made with a lot less precision then a skilled lacrosse player in real life. Overall, I gave those movie 5/10 stars because like I said, it was enjoyable but very predictable and eventually boring for me. Hope that helped for anyone wondering about the movie, even in 2018

A simple message packed into a well meaning movie.

In 2011's "A Warrior's Heart" Lutz plays a skilled lacrosse player who's not much of a team-player. His family moves from California to the East Coast where he learns to deal with his hotheadedness. Ashley plays his girlfriend and Beach his Native mentor while Gabrielle Anwar and Chris Potter play his parents. To be honest, I didn't know much about lacrosse until viewing this movie. Turns out it originated with the Iroquois, inhabiting what is now New York, Pennsylvania, and other parts of the NE America. In some aboriginal traditions the games lasted all day for 2-3 days straight and were played as part of ceremonial ritual, a kind of symbolic warfare, to give thanks to the Creator or Master. This was a small production, only costing $2.5 million, but it's generally well made with a likable cast and quality soundtrack. Some people have criticized it as predictable, but this is only true in the sense of the sports film maverick who must be broken in order to be a team-player, which ultimately ushers in victory. Beyond this, I wasn't able to predict where the story was going, like a certain person's sudden meltdown and the arduous wilderness lacrosse camp. The cast is great, but it felt like the story needed something more to hook the viewer, such as edgier drama or deeper subtext, but something. Another flaw is the final game where it's clear there aren't that many people in the audience (or maybe lacrosse doesn't draw that many spectators, but this was a NATIONAL championship). Another glaring flaw is that the wilderness camp is supposed to be in the Northeast when it's clear that it's Southern California. A superior sports movie of this low-budget sort is 2010's "Cutback" (see my review). Nevertheless, "A Warrior's Heart" is a must for fans of lacrosse or sports movies in general, not to mention fans of Lutz, Greene and Beach. The movie runs 86 minutes and was shot in Santa Clarita (College of the Canyons) and Pasadena, California. GRADE: C+ (almost B-)

Kellan Lutz was just about the best they come. He looked so good in this movie just saying. Anyways, the content of the movie is fantastic. I had such a good moral to it and really made you think about the choices you make in life. All genders and ages should like this move. Guys will like the sport side of Lacrosse and the girls...well obviously Kellan shirtless. Kellan plays a character named Connor whose dad is in the Military. You get the impression that his dad was a big time lacrosse player and Connor is following in his foot steps. The movie makes you smile, laugh, and cry. I cried when Connors dad dies when at war. The way Connor struggles with the loss really has an effect on you and you really want to reach out to him. There is a little romance between Connor and another character named Brooklyn. Brooklyn's dad is the Lacrosse coach at the school they go to, and he and his father have a past that you find out later in the movie.I would really recommend watching this movie because once you see it you will want to continue watching it.

A Warrior's Heart – CATCH(Beginning)TRASH(Middle)CATCH(Ending) (C+) I personally love sports movies and I have never seen a movie about Lacrosse. A Warrior's Heart is about a hotheaded boy Conner who loses his temper when his father dies in war. The movie starts well and ends well but it gets tedious in the middle. Especially all the lectures and scenes in the woods are extremely boring. Kellan Lutz is charming and acted pretty well compare to his few lines in every Twilight movie. Ashley Green is cute and does a decent job of a girlfriend. Chord Overstreet is fine along with rest of the Lacrosse team players. Overall, it's a teenage pastime movie and whoever has hearts for Lacrosse can enjoy.
