In fresh, charming comedy "Quiz Lady" nerdy Awkwafina's life centres around her dog and her fave tv quiz show (with host Will Ferrell & smarmy champ Jason Schwartzman) - so when her dog's kidnapped by mobster Jon Park, her sister Sandra Oh & crotchety neighbour Holland Taylor 'convince' her to go on the show to raise his ransom. It's pretty daft & silly, but Jen D'Angelo infuses ample sisterly warmth into her second screenplay, and director Jessica Yu elicits fine comic performances from her impressive cast (including a Paul Reubens cameo in his final movie - RIP). While not the most demanding or high-brow film out there, it's heart-lifting and fun. Good enough.

This movie is immaculate on many different levels. A complex plot that strengthens throughout the entire movie which leads to an amazing climax and even better ending. Awkwafina and Sandra Oh both play their roles very well respectfully. The play between the two characters throughout the film is magnificent. Will Ferrell also has one of his best all time performances in this film, topping other films such as Step Brothers and Anchorman. However, the real star throughout this entire film is Luke Kim as Cousin Jin. The sheer amount of passion, talent, energy, and enthusiasm Kim puts into this role is truly remarkable. Kim is an impeccable actor and really has the looks to become an even better Tom Cruise esk actor in the future. I expect great things from the young actor, and will be very excited to see when he is nominated in this years upcoming Oscars.

I laughed at this movie so much, Awkwafina is perfect in every film she's in. She plays the complete opposite of her famous Peik Lin Goh "Asian Ellen" character from Crazy Rich Asians and still absolutely kills it as a shy, obsessively organized office worker who is probably "on the spectrum." Sandra Oh shows up as her insane but loveable older sister. I was dying when Oh, as a middle aged woman, put on puffy pink sleeves and platform sneakers like a K-Pop fan half her age ..in fact she doubles down HARD on this K-Pop vibe variously throughout the film despite playing a Chinese woman in her 40s. The film is constantly messing with stereotypes this way, using them preemptively to mess with the viewer as part of the joke (Sandra Oh is actually a Canadian-American woman of Korean descent). Just watch it if you're looking for something super fun to laugh at.

Refreshing and original storyline. You can think of it as a remix of Slumdog Millionaire and John Wick with Asian ladies in the center of the story. It's edgy, bold and hilarious. The screen chemistry between the Sandra Oh and Awkwafina is undeniable. As an Asian woman living in the western society I can relate to a lot of those moments in the movie and laugh really hard at some of the insider jokes. These are 2 truly talented actresses with great comedy skills(not like they need this film to prove themselves). Besides being a comedy, it's also a heartwarming and motivating story about sisterhood, finding happiness in your life and have the courage to follow your passion. Because when you do, the world will be cheering you on, even if you are a 30 something Asian lady stuck in a cubicle who watches quiz every night while cuddle her dog.
