Remember nirbhaya case accused mohd afroz who is free now.... This film showcase that situation but context is oppositie
After watching the Netflix series: Unbelievable, I was expected a full on psychological drama. Here's what I got.... The moment when ink is sprayed on Akshay Khanna - it is very plausible for an 'Indian movie' to resolve the plot by favouring his verdict. But to make the whole case sensitive they have to somehow take it all back to a neutral state. There are many moments in the film where we can see either the writer, casting crew, or the director shaping our thoughts, and to be honest - I didn't enjoy that aspect. The ideal case ought to be where the film makers are so absent that their personalities have sort of rinsed into the whole movie. So in that regards I found the film a bit naive. For a sensitive movie watcher - it is basically a 200/- crash-course on how to set up tension and later resolve. The subject deserves more than that! The performances of the two lead characters were sound enough to engage one to watch it till the end. The argumentation that was presented in the court room was pretty straightforward and one dimensional, so whatsoever vulnerability was thus exposed stands as being not so appealing. In conclusion, this movie is just a plain comment which reads - "Police are lazy, Women sometimes misuse Section 375, and justice is an abstract concept." If you choose not to watch it - You won't miss a great deal. But it was fun anyway!
The story had excellent potential but it is still relatively better than most of the drivel being dished out in Hindi cinema. But halfway, you begin to find major gaps in the story that were glaringly ignored by both lawyers. For example - a simple research into both parties' phone records would show they were both in contact for a while, before the event. Having said that, the story is definitely relevant today and shows how a person with a personal vendetta can abuse the law and system. Akshay is a remarkable actor and his acting is spot on. Richa's dialogue delivery is weak, her body posture uncomfortable. If there was a stronger actress acting as the prosecutor, this film would have been far better. The judges are superb. Small side story of Akshay's personal life was not required and looks stilted. Rahul is very good and effective. Meera Chopra too has done very well. Unfair to compare this some of Hollywood's great Law movies, but to be honest, that's what the makers here were trying very hard to do. Just by copying them snd by using words like 'sex', 'sperm' etc., repeatedly does not a progressive film make. The riot scenes were childish and the scene were the judges sit in dilemma before their decision, is silly. All it needed was a song in background (thankfully there was none!). Overall, 4 for Attempt to make a Hindi movie without the usual trappings, but could have had more panache, finesse and style.
Akshey Khanna the most underrated actor in Indian cinema delivers yet another powerful performance. How law sometimes overpower justice, that's the theme of this movie. Watch it and learn it.
A rather debatable and controversial propaganda has been championed in this movie. A word about the script movement, dialogue, camera, acting, direction- technically and from an artistic perspective- splendid. A true courtroom drama which was more shot inside the courtroom than roam around everywhere else, but the court! Most of the focus was on Akshaye Khanna, and Richa Chaddha who should have been give as much of build up was somewhat forgotten. Now, the movie hailed by many for the perception it introduces about a rape case, to me, seemed- both conflicting as well as disturbing. The movie states that use of power at your disposal to abuse someone sexually does not qualify as rape and must not be treated that way. It goes on to say that, that was the reason- the victim played some clever tricks to trap the culprit in a case of rape by forging evidences and narrative- and extract revenge. It then goes on to trivialise the entire situation by sympathising with the culprit by the end of the film. And then, finally concludes that justice was not served instead the legal system was outraged by a revenge. Underlying problem is washed away, like it did not deserve a chance. Remember, this was not the story of false rape accusation out of malice; in fact- there was sexual abuse involved, which was inspired by real life, as per the film makers- thus my concerns- 1. Why are those actions which are nothing less than rape, not enlisted as rape and treated likewise? 2. Why do we have to trivialize trauma which is not aggressive but as overwhelming and disturbing or at times, even worse? 3. Why see the victim who still had to go through forced sexual abuse, as some sort of plotting villain? Was it just to extract climactic thrills? 4. Is Bollywood trying not to recognise the impact that something as sinister as sexual abuse has- on the life of a victim by depicting them as grey characters? 5. We all want to make movies that larger audience would love... but do movies based on social issues have to appease, at the cost of ethics and moralities? Lastly, if the right laws, that as per the movie, are not there in place, had been in place, should the victim had to create a trap in the first place? Where are we going with messages we send through our movies? Think!
Everyone acting superb.it's a good educational topic abt social media influence, law loophole and Unjustified being served. But production team done a bad editing, camera angle, punch line and atmosphere didn't combine together which make it plain.i watch a better one than this where the director clever make use the quietness of the courtroom which the slowly waking sound footsteps of lawyer approach the witness that can cause the tension in in. I can't feel any on this movie. And a insult to law the script try to create some funny moments in scene which I find it absurd.
Standing ovation for Akshay Khanna on his impeccable dialogue deliveries and thought provoking impressions during courtroom scenes. Kudos to Richa Chadha on taking up such a role. Truly raged fire with her acting skills. In fact she should take more roles like this. Awesome direction by Ajay Bahl. One of the best court room drama I've seen in these recent years. And that too on such a sensitive topic. Raises up many questions at the back of your head. Very engaging script throughout. I kept glued to my chair till the very end. Excellent background score as well. Congratulations to the entire cast for such an effort. Need more flicks like this. 👍
This film may not be successful at the box office but it's a well made and well acted film. Deserves more.
