In 1984, Silent Night, Deadly Night was a success cause controversy because angry parents didn't like see a killer Santa Claus in a horror movie.It a overrated movie, but still is a O.K. picture. A remake was release in 2012, make many mistakes like a very boring and sad main character, Aubrey Bradimore and others not likable characters. Other major issue in modern remake of classic horror, wasted too much time explain their reasons for being villains. Should waste time in creating a very good bad guy that explain him. Reason that most of people like villains in horror because they are played by good actors or actresses in a good history which is full of suspenseful scenes and likable supporting characters. After watching ending, i was confused because history of killer is that he saw his dad being killing by a police officer, father of main character, because movie shows son having a burn scars that doesn't make sense he wasn't burn in face,that happened to his father not himself. Other thing, why killer kill random people before killing man who killed his daddy? Reason that make his father want to kill everyone who being bad in Christmas because his wife is cheating and leaving him. Original gives a much better explanation,Billy saw his parents being killing and was abused by nuns for years,they always keep says to him that doing bad things is wrong and that why is being punched that why is killing people who is doing bad things. If you wanna see a good Christmas horror movies, watch Black Christmas(1974),Christmas Evil(1980)and original Silent Night, Deadly Night(1984).

The holiday horror flick is all but dead. Yeah we have had teases with things like Eli Roth's Thanksgiving teaser in Grindhouse, but still nothing. Where are the movies from the 80's like Silent Night, Deadly Night? Thanks to director Steven C. Miller and his loose remake Silent Night horror fans could possibly have that classic holiday go to slasher again, but does it deliver? Silent Night follows the police of a small Midwestern town as they search for a killer Santa Claus who is delivering bloody Christmas kills for all those on the naughty list. Finally someone makes a slasher movie right. This film takes everything fun in the genre and throws it on its head to deliver and old school fun gory ride. The story is simple and to the point keeping just enough mystery to keep you guessing on who is donning the red suit. For this kind of film it sports a great unsuspecting cast including Jamie King, Donal Logue and the always awesome Malcolm McDowell. They all give good performances, but the real reason anyone is watching this film is to see Santa unleash his unique brand of Christmas gore and it does not disappoint. The kills are over the top and awesome with plenty of gore to keep the most obsessive gore hound satisfied. The film plays dark and creepy while maintaining a dark sense of humor. This version of the Santa killer is given a really disturbing mask to take his presence to new level along with his clear rage makes him easily the most demented of the Santa killers to date. Director Steven Miller pulls no punches making sure it is clear that no one is safe and makes this fun Christmas ride that special film that the holidays have been missing. In a world of remakes and sequels, this is one entry that works well taking what made the original so fun and stepping it up to new heights. Fans of the original series will love this film as will hardcore horror fans. Clearly this is for a specific audience, but this movie easily plays well to anyone willing to take the ride. Could we finally have our Christmas slasher back and have a new franchise on our hands? Only you can decide so make sure you check it out in theaters or pick up a copy when it hits stores and let's bring our bloody holiday cheer back into our lives.

A vicious maniac dressed up as Santa Claus viciously butchers various sinners in a small Midwestern town on Christmas Eve. It's up to sour take-charge Sheriff Cooper (Malcolm McDowell in peak hilariously campy'n'crusty form) and the troubled, but spunky Deputy Aubrey Bradimore (a fine and appealing performance by Jaime King) to stop this madman. Director Steven C. Miller, working from a blithely twisted script by Jayson Rothwell, relates the deliciously warped story at a snappy pace, maintains an edgy and mean-spirited tone throughout, delivers the gruesome goods with the gory and nasty murder set pieces (the wood chipper sequence rates as the definite splatter highlight), generates plenty of tension at the exciting climax, and tops everything off with a wickedly funny sense of black humor. The filmmakers warrant additional praise for several cool nods to the notorious 1984 original (which includes the iconic impalement on reindeer antlers!), having the guts to bump off an obnoxious 14-year-old girl, the spot-on soundtrack of familiar yuletide tunes, and even providing a little tasty gratuitous female nudity for good measure. Moreover, it's acted with zest by a sturdy cast: Donal Logue contributes a lively and amusing turn as cynical jerk Santa Jim, buxom blonde looker Courtney-Jane White vamps it up nicely as foxy and snippy babe Tiffany, Ellen Wong adds a dash of sass as perky police dispatcher Brenda, and John B. Lowe is marvelously engaging as Aubrey's jolly dad. Joseph White's sharp cinematography makes neat use of both garish color and a prowling camera. Kevin Riepl's ominous score hits the spirited shuddery spot. A nifty slice'n'dice outing.

Steven C. Miller's "Silent Night" is a retelling of the 1984 cult classic "Silent Night, Deadly Night" movie about a killer in a Santa suit who exacts revenge on a community for past transgressions. In this modern telling of the "killer Claus" story even the origin is a revision. The film stars Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, Donal Logue, Lisa Marie, Brendan Fehr, Ellen Wong and takes place on Christmas Eve in a small Midwestern town with dark past. "Silent Night" is an instant classic for fans of the Holiday horror genre and can stand alone from the original film in which it takes inspiration from. This isn't a direct remake, in fact in only minimally gives subtle hints to the original movie while creating a completely independent film that is just as dark and sinister. It is also very entertaining, filled with an atmospheric despair and solemnity on what should be a lighthearted, joyful night. The story is filled with tragic characters on a clear path to self-destruction which adds to the fact that horrors are unfolding in this small town that go far beyond your basic killer on the loose. After all Santa slays the naughty and there is no better place to find naughty souls than a town filled with despair. There are times when the action seems a bit rushed when it comes to scenes with the actual killer at work that is probably intentional because it also creates an element of unease and question surrounding the goings-on within the town. "Silent Night" creates a dark and intense story that doesn't rely on black comedy to beg for acceptance from the audience. Instead of taking a tongue-in-cheek approach Miller has brought forth a very somber thriller that is suspenseful and serious. Something a lot of horror films shy from when it comes to slashers. The closest the film comes to comic relief is in Malcolm McDowell's character who maintains a sterile, focused, Chuck Norris styled attitude about policing his town. The character is closer to the one he played in Rob Zombie's "Halloween". The blood and gore in this film isn't over-the-top but Miller never shies away from the graphic kills or gory matter either. Everything about "Silent Night" is balanced and toned in a way that allows the story to draw you into the nightmare that plays out. There are a few scary moments where the element of surprise caught me off guard. I jumped back in my seat during a few scenes. This is a great slasher film that should not be considered a remake and should be an instant classic with the majority of horror fans.

When I first saw this film in the stores I thought it was a stupid film about Santa killing people. I'm not a big fan of those type of movies that try to make Santa look like a killer. But I recently recorded this on TV and I really enjoyed it. It is a killer Santa movie but not like most of them. It's more like a mystery film. And I'm 13 and I watch horror movies a lot and I never get scared of them but this is terrifying. The mask the he wears is the thing that's scary. I've never seen the original. I wanted to before and I have Silent Night, Deadly Night 3-4&5 (got em in a set) but I've never fully watched them but only 3 is connected to the original but I don't think it featured the Santa costume just the killer. Anyways of you love horror go watch this it's funny, scary and awesome.

A nutter dressed as Santa Claus is roaming around some sleepy town in America wasting people who have been naughty (starting with an adulterer and her lover), and it's up to deputy whats-her-name and grumpy police chief Malcolm McDowell to sort him out. I was getting fed up with slasher movies since they, at their worst, are just the same things you've seen over and over again (see Bunnyman massacre, Mask Maker etc). Silent Night IS the same sort of thing you've seen before, but it's really well made, contains actual tension, and is a beautiful film to look at. Of course, there are plenty of undesirable folk for our killer Claus to perforate, from the bratty kid to the pervy priest to the pornographers, and you've got plenty of gore to go with it too (including a head split in two with an axe and someone getting fed into a woodchipper feet first). I'm no worshipper of Malcolm McDowell but here he's pretty funny as the ignorant police chief who won't listen to his deputy. "Don't put avacado on the burger" indeed. Just shows that a good slasher film can be made if people can be arsed.

Let me start off by saying that I went into this movie with high expectations and I was not disappointed. It had everything I want in a horror movie, brutality and gore and plenty of it. The casting of Jamie King and Malcolm McDowell was a good choice as the leads. Jamie's seriousness and Malcolm's comedic relief play well off of each other. Donal Logue as Santa Jim gives one of the best monologues I have heard in a movie. Curtis Moore as Reverend Madeley gives an unforgettable portrayal as the creepiest man of the cloth I have ever seen in a movie. I will definitely be picking this one up on Blu-ray when it's released. I want to relive the experience over and over again. I would like to thank the director Steven C. Miller for making a fun and exciting horror movie since its hard to find one in the horror scene these days.
