(I don't think I actually spoil anything but I always mark it that way) First off: it's an independent film so that's the vein it should be taken in. Comparing it to A-list and/or big budget films such as "X-Men" and "The Breakfast Club" is nonsensical. Does it have similarities to the two? Sure but so would any other Superhero fanfare or film/TV that would have students in detention. The story: some big shot guy named Kaeluss comes to the school. Some troublemaker teens are placed in detention to not cause any trouble for the visit. Apparently Kaeluss has an evil agenda of consuming the powers of all in attendance and the Superhero slacks in detention are going to save the day but before they can do that first they have to get along with each other. The dialogue is filled in cliché (to the extreme) phrases that no one uses anymore; or, at the least: not all bundled all into one film in such short intervals. I'm thinking this is pointed at preteens maybe. Otherwise it's mindboggling to think anyone older would be into the dialogue though, and no offense intended, this was made in Canada and my experience of their shows, it's right on par. Kind of wonder if they actually speak in cliché all the time there. Has to come from somewhere, right? The acting starts off fine in the beginning but with the cliché dialogue it just gets worse and worse as it goes on. The overall story isn't too bad but it does get grating from the dialogue. I found it ironic that the Principal's lines were less cliché than the rest, and his acting wasn't too bad. The reason why I find it ironic is because the guy who plays him wrote the story/dialogue. There were some mildly humorous parts throughout but no real laugh out loud scenes, in my opinion. There is the in between moments where they try to have the teens actually think and react (in a more adult and/or mature manner) to the situations they're in but they are fleeting, at best. Then you have fight scenes where after someone does something the opposition just stands there watching them as they slowly escape. And it happened a lot throughout the fight scenes. The choreography was lacking. I guess they didn't have a choreographer for those scenes. The CGI/special effects were okay. Some were top notch, others, not so much. It is a watchable film as long as you're doing something else while watching it; like writing a review. Overall, it's okay. It's not the worst out there: trust me: there are far worse things to watch out there.

Who are the other reviewers? Actual film critics or majors? The movie looks low budget, it is one of those free films you can watch on Amazon prime, that you HAVE NOT SEEN. It is basically sky high but if it was done by lifetime, literally. The acting was solid, but the cgi wasn't the best of quality (not original Tron bad tho) and the story had a few holes. Spoiler Alert: The parts that really did not make sense were: the guy had everyone's powers and yet in the fight he lost, only used one (his original power). The. Somehow in the end one of his friends/coworkers found the main villain and broke him out? Not sure how she wasn't caught though?

This movie is horrible but i love it and it's so hilarious. There are a plethora of plot holes but the terrible acting really makes up for it.

It's not that deep to be called Breakfast Club and it's not cool enough to be called X-Men. I guess the story line wasn't so bad, it had some potential to be as good as Sky High. The acting wasn't bad either. But the CGI was so pitiful, it made me cringe. And the director really needs to learn a lot about superpowers. The fight scenes didn't make any sense. Lots of weak points I can poke around, and by poke I mean ridicule. If this is an after school project, I would've given it an A-. But since it's intended as a movie, I had to give it a D-. And that's actually pretty generous, considering the lack of... almost everything.

First the positives: the acting in this is pretty solid. I especially enjoyed (surprisingly) the role of the principal played by Keith Cooper. Two reasons: he did a good job, and for once the principal wasn't a complete moron (the opposite in fact). The school president was played well, the actor switching from self-absorbed dufus to a mature and stand-up guy. The bad guy was properly and enjoyably obnoxious while being charismatic at the same time (worst super suit ever though, costuming department). The other characters were cliche, but the actors did as well as they could with the parts given. So the acting was probably the best aspect. The one exception was the "bad kid" who was so typically lame-cliche it hurt to watch. But that was more the directing and writing than the actor to blame. The film started out interesting and fun, but then digressed into a boring mix of hyper-cliche scenarios, really bad lines, and monologues / morality discussions that would put an insomniac to sleep. It pretty much shoves ethics lessons down the viewers throats in a manner that would make a nun wince. After the first 15 or 20 minutes I found myself pretty much sitting and wondering if it was going to get any better. To its credit there were individual scenes that were enjoyable (I especially enjoyed the principal's unexpected "stand up" scene-- but no spoilers there). So I have to give it 4 stars... a step below mediocre. Part of it is worth watching, other parts not so much. Overall, it could have been a lot better with just a little more effort and more competent writing.

SUPER DETENTION is a low budget superhero/comedy/drama made on an indie scale. Plot-wise, it's a straight-up rip-off of THE BREAKFAST CLUB, mixed with some X-MEN style superhero antics. Basically a group of kids get held in detention and end up using their super powers on each other. The problem with all this is that the acting is very stilted and the film is deeply unfunny; only the CGI effects impress.
