I thought that Kim Basinger was so gorgeous in the scenes from The 11th Hour / I Am Here where she's preparing to go to work at her shipping company in Hamburg. Her blonde hair was nicely sleek and coifed, her cheeks were rosy pink, and her lips were a richly textured, shade or ruby red. She looked both elegant and chic in her black satin blouse, pearl earrings, and black rimmed glasses. I also love how Kim interacts with people when she's act work. She has a very calm and soft and breathless manner of speaking that's equally soothing and seductive. She does a great job at being detached and distracted from the world around her. One thing that I love about Kim as an actress is her sensitivity and emotionally fragility. I always in particular, loved the scene in which Kim unbuttons her white shirt, pulls down her white bra, and pulls out one of her breasts. What follows is a protracted scene focused on Kim's hard nipple as she squeezes milk out. Kim is incredibly sexy and captivating in that scene. My heart literally skips a beat when she first cradles her breast and then delivers a soft, breathless little gasp the first moment that she squeezes. And then as the camera focuses on her naked breast, we can overhear Kim grunting, smacking her mouth, exhaling, blowing, and snorting. It's a a very sensual, passionate, and intense scene. And Kim does a terrific job conveying a sense of curiosity, hesitation, surprise, vigor, panic, exhaustion, and finally, embarrassment all in roughly 36 seconds. It's a very beautiful and intimate scene because it displays a woman remaining in touch with her femininity and womanhood. Especially the shot towards the end, where an anxiety riddled Kim sees her the milk residue on her finger tips. You can also clearly tell that Kim is both physically and mentally drained at the end of the scene.

The 11th hour is a movie starring Kim Basinger as a female executive in a European shipping company. After a horrible miscarriage (her 8th in 10 years) which almost kills her, her doctor informs her she has to stop trying as it won't happen. That could be grounds for an interesting drama of what a woman in those situations deals with. However, this movie goes another route, as Basinger's Maria discovers through work a child prostitution ring in a town he company's shipping routes go through. She then decides the most logical thing to do is to try and buy a baby from the prostitutes. This movie is off the rails entirely. The acting works, but what they are given is complete drivel. There is no thought put into how she'll execute her plan, other than taking some money. There are also scenes where an unborn baby is talking to Maria. If this happened only after the miscarriage, it would make sense as Maria coming unhinged, however, it happens from the first scene of the move. The ending, however, is why I gave this one star. I was ready to give it 3 or 4, but the very end of the movie basically says it doesn't matter what happens to this woman, she got a baby and that makes everything ok. It's downright insulting.

The first time I saw Kim Basinger was 7 1/2 Weeks, and I loved it! She had these full lips and a sensual look, it wasn't even necessary to be too good of an actress. In the late decade I saw her again, sad, older, not really too demanding in her choices for roles in movies. However, seeing her at "I am Here", I think she took a great leap. I think she accepted her maturity, and this role was just right for her, and she gave herself 100%.The rest of the cast is there only to make her shine. The exception is Jordan Prentice who interacted with her performance in many ways. A woman in a desperate need to have a child in her life. She's successful, rich, married, but still empty. Slowly she becomes obsessed with this idea, after failing for ten years. I would classify this movie as a thriller/horror, rather than just a drama. She hears a voice and follows it. Is she going mad or her nature is really calling even that it's already too late? The movie is complex and not for everyone, but I really enjoyed the dark tone and a little dark humor towards the end. What's the price to make a dream come true?

Kim Bassinger is superb in this movie. The movie is everything I expected and more. It's moving, shocking and has a great ending. I don't understand why people tend to give low grades to films like this one. Is it because it's not exactly a horror movie or because Kim has been such a beauty that aging makes her a "no no" actress? I would recommend it to anyone who has had someone close living a problem like this, longing for being a mother and having one disappointment after another. It can make a woman lose her mind, to say the least. I think Kim deserves an Oscar for her performance, which is subdued and conveys all the emotions at the same time.

It's a good dramatic movie with some thriller elements. It makes you feel uncomfortable and afraid about what's going to happen next. Recommended for artsy movie lovers. Great movie!

Very irritating but had to watch what happened in the end...my ending would be that she stopped at the store for baby formula FIRST then hit the friggin' highway outta that town..take Christian with her..she moves to another country..put Christian in rehab and they all live happily ever after..Instant FAM!!

This movie should be a short movie about 30 minutes not more, so it's so boring that we can't wait till the end

Molham مُلهَم22/08/24 07:40

Well her character of course and not Ms. Basinger herself. There's also something very wrong about this movie. It's strange and kind of has a lot of flaws, but it's still mesmerizing and kind of takes the viewer on a journey if he/she embarks and embraces it. A very dark one that touches subject matters that are really mean and can be considered very bad indeed too. But if you let yourself in (not that the characters seem to have any redeeming values or merits apart from the struggle they apparently and obviously are in), you will have a suspenseful movie to watch and appreciate with a magnificent performance by Kim Basinger and her co-star. The pace might be slow, but the impact can be perceived as strong nevertheless. Tough subject, tough movie
