Bon film !
Bon film !
I've never written a review before but for this movie I had to so that people can know that beautiful cinema is still alive. Intriguing movie from beginning to end. I liked that transition of events from beginning to end were masterfully told. A true love story that captivates the viewers. Get a box of tissues because you will need for wiping tears. Camera angles, flow of events and dialog were all a piece of art in my view. The music was also wonderful. And the cherry on top is the ending. If you are planning to view a beautiful movie with someone special then I strongly recommend watching this delightful movie.
I haven't seen a film this remarkable in a long time. The characters are incredibly realistic, brought to life by outstanding performances from both the actors and actresses. The storyline is deeply engaging and delivers shocking moments that keep you on the edge of your seat. The film offers a sharp critique of war, capitalism, and deeply rooted traditions, making it not just entertaining but thought-provoking as well. This is definitely a film that deserves to be seen on the big screen. The locations and cultural nuances, particularly the depictions of Japan and the island setting, are beautifully presented. The inclusion of scenes where characters learn Japanese in the kitchen and the decision to leave LSE are handled with great care and add layers of depth to the narrative. The filming locations enhance the authenticity of the story, making it all the more immersive. This film is undoubtedly worth watching. I'm confident it will garner numerous awards in competitions worldwide. The director expertly manipulates the audience's emotions, proving their skill in creating a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.
"Touch" is a charming little concept of a movie, but it does have its drawbacks. Chief among them are that it is very slow to develop, is filled with inconsequential moments, features a male lead that is very lacking in charisma, and leaves too much backstory untold. We're presented with a kind, aging Icelandic restaurateur on a mission to reunite with his first love from 50+ years earlier. Okay fine, there's a story there. There is an implied medical urgency, but we never know what it is or how serious it is. There is a deceased wife, but we know nothing of her and their life together (happy/sad?). We don't know what brought this sudden pre-Covid journey on out of the blue. He travels far (no spoilers) has a couple of slow and inconsequential meetings along the way, and we move toward a late resolution... that may or may not leave you a little bit cold. It's a nice film, but slow... and it takes place in two different eras. Late 1960s Kristofer and Miko are lovely and sweet together, and their story is both cute and sad. Similarly, the people around them are engaging. In the 2020 timeline, the film would've benefitted from a slightly more dynamic "older" Kristofer. I found the lead actor to be unnecessarily gruff and doddering and lacking any real reason to care about him or his quest. It's a unique story, and you might well enjoy it. I did... but it should've been better.
I love the casting, this movie is simply speechless... The madness for love in this movie made me love more... As I said I don't know what to write this movie would definitely linger round in my mind every single day until I die... Maybe I'm too related to this story... I just always wondered if the person in my past would come searching for me, i expected but I'm immature in that age when I'm 25 i slowly started understanding men in my life never had that love for me... It's not negative but I just convinced myself by saying the truth... Maybe it's always one sided... Whatever my life is I'm happy with it.. no regrets...
For me this film is a rare gem, the likes of which you rarely see. It had an elegant story structure, sparsely written characters, and a great soundtrack. The direction was excellent, the performances were very sincere, and very convincing. I love the weaving of Icelandic and Japanese characters into a late 60s- early 1970s London setting. Kristofer was a student during the time of demonstrations against the establishment for supporting the war in Viet-Nam, and as a radical quit college to work in a restaurant. His fatherly Nippon boss Takahashi-san taught him how to prepare Japanese meals and helped to teach him Japanese, though he seemed to have possessed a passion for it. Miko likes the swinging London scene, while her conservative dad, who migrated here from Hiroshima, is more reserved. Because dad wouldn't approve, the couple are secretive about seeing each other. Kristofer is surprised when he shows up to the restaurant one day and it's closed without any information about what happened and where the family might be. The story meanders back and forth back and forth and was told in a very loving and nostalgic fashion. For me it had a pitch perfect ending, which is uncommon. This is really a lovely film.
Kristófer is told by his doctors that he needs to resolve any of his unfinished business, looking at his health condition and 50 years ago, he had a love story which had abruptly ended. He had quit his college, standing by his beliefs and starts working as a dishwasher at a restaurant named Nippon in London. It is run by Takahashi and soon Kristófer falls in love with Takahashi's daughter Miko. They are the survivors of the Hiroshima attack and Takahashi disapproves Miko being in a relationship. Now 50 years later, Kristófer had led a life of a chef and is a lonely widower. He seeks Miko and travels to Japan. Will he meet Miko and find out the reason why their love story had an abrupt end and what else does he get to know, forms rest of the story. The ignorant me learnt about Hibakusha through this film. Touch indeed is a must watch love story with solid drama and superb casting. The non-linear narrative, jumping 50 years to and from, establishes the story perfectly. Palmi Kormakur and Egill Ólafsson as young and older Kristófer stood out for me along with the young Miko played by Koki. The shy Kristófer and ofcourse Miko's romance, the sparkling chemistry brings out the magic while 50 years later, Egill Ólaffson's mature eyes do the rest especially during the crucial scenes. The final reveal was heart touching too and the silent reaction is spot on. The conservative Takahashi and his fear is justified to an extent too but then being an Asian, it is much more easier to buy into the strict father. I am always up for such love stories that need not have an happy ending but juggle between romance and loneliness, being in love and the feeling of losing the precious, while life is filled with the memories. I definitely liked this film a lot and recommend it to everyone.
Major spoilers right out the gate. You know that feeling you get after leaving a fictional world? The feeling of needing to go back? I feel that with this movie, but the world I'm missing is a world that never existed for the portrayed couple... a world stolen by the bomb. Because that's what this movie is really about. It's about the generational trauma that spread from the blast, and how it not only made a father terrified of new life, but made his daughter feel undeserving of it. I'm in mourning for this young couple. The last twenty minutes of the film, remarkably bare of dialogue from Kristófer, conveyed his sadness, anger, and shock in a way I'd never seen executed so well. I was floored by the moment in the restaurant. He could barely look into the eyes of his own son, who represented fifty years of lost joy. This movie, I'm certain, is close to reality for tens of thousands of Hibakusha. This story, which I'm sure is carefully drawn from truth, may be one of the best arguments I've heard in a long time, for the end to senseless war. Look at the casualties. Don't just watch a movie like this and move on. Study what actually happened. That's the advice I'm giving myself. That's what I'm going to do. I've enjoyed a life of little tragedy, but "Touch" has put a burden on my heart that will be hard to shake.
Completely will written. Great story ,45% of people in the world can relate to this story in so many ways. Young love ,Torn apart to marry someone you also loved but that the first love is always going to be in your heart. There scene in movie that shows his love for the first when in fact his wife knew the whole time. They never wanted children was hinted in the therapist office. He just never stopped .The first love story that came out of covid. Also even without the mri the Dr knew he little time left and told him. Also the history around the story . Himashima,Not going to tell you the end so enjoy.
