The gates have opened the way to a thousand new worlds and the rush to colonize has begun. Settlers looking for a new life stream out from humanity's home planets. Ilus, the first human colony on this vast new frontier, is being born in blood and fire. Innocent scientists are slaughtered as they try to survey a new and alien world. The struggle on Ilus threatens to spread all the way back to Earth. James Holden and the crew of his one small ship are sent to make peace in the midst of war and sense in the midst of chaos. But the more he looks at it, the more Holden thinks the mission was meant to fail. And the whispers of a dead man remind him that the great galactic civilization that once stood on this land is gone. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?Either Davies narration or the writing flattened out the characters I loved in the Mays-narrated books.I was able to finish this, but won't be listening to any more Davies-narrated Expanse books.Would you recommend Cibola Burn to your friends? Why or why not?I would not.I would recommend the first three Expanse books narrated by Jefferson Mays.Did the narration match the pace of the story? This isn't something I think about. The narrator was good, but nowhere near as good as the conspicuously absent Jefferson Mays. Was Cibola Burn worth the listening time?Sure.I don't regret it, but enjoyed it much less than the first three expanse novels.Any additional comments?BRING BACK JEFFERSON MAYS!

There are a few too many predictable plot mechanisms that feel contrived. Would I still buy this to hear a continuation of an extended story that I've come to like? Sure. But it feels quite a bit more formulaic than the previous three. Performance is pretty good though I tend to prefer Jefferson Mays, the reader from the previous three books.

Would you try another book from James S. A. Corey and/or Erik Davies?I would never listen to another book narrated by Erik Davies again. If Jefferson Mays re-records this book I would buy it in a heartbeat. What was one of the most memorable moments of Cibola Burn?About three hours in when I decided that no matter how good the story was, I just couldn't listen to this awful narrator any more. What didn’t you like about Erik Davies’s performance?He.sounds....like.someone.....doing.a.bad....WilliamShatner..impression.Also, his acccents are terrible (e.g. he gives Chrisjen Avasarala an American accent).Do you think Cibola Burn needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?I'm not sure. I'll let you know after I read my hard copy.Any additional comments? Please re-record this with Jefferson Mays. I don't care how much he charges, he's worth it.
