If you are distilling with the botanicals in the still let it macerate for 24hrs. If you pan to strain the botanicals our before distilling soak for 2 weeks. Distil slowly like a spirit run, throw away the first 10ml then collect the next 400ml. Proof down to 40-50abv. The gin will improve in flavour over the next few weeks.
