After a series of "Cornette Commentaries" aired on WWF where Jim would talk about everything that's right and wrong about the wrestling business at the time, a decision was made to bring National Wrestling Alliance sanctioned matches to the WWF. Jeff Jarrett had just signed a new WWF contract, and in order to make Jarrett feel more like an anti-WWF outsider, he was given the NWA North American Championship during an episode of Monday Night Raw. An NWA faction was formed within the WWF that included The Rock 'n' Roll Express, Barry Windham, Jeff Jarrett and Jim Cornette. Additional members would get added including NWA World Heavyweight Champion Dan Severn along with the "New" Midnight Express. The NWA stable within WWF was met with indifference, fans were attending WWF shows to see the Attitude Era and while the NWA faction brought audiences back to the past.
