I couldn't like this movie. The leading guy was good but sofia carson is just awful. I didn't care for her singing and her awful attitude, arguing all the time. The arguments are what ruined it for me. I get that in the beginning you would have the tension and the fighting and the disagreeableness but to be that way for the whole movie? Just no. And the movie itself hardly showed any reason she should be liked by the army guy. Also there's no chemistry between them. Yup got bored with this one. Geez netflix who wrote this script.
I gave it a chance and watched it to the end. Its very predictable all the way through. Many of the songs are old hits until she write her own songs, which isn't good. I think she is a terrible singer, which would never get a hit song in real life. And the soldiers have public "private" calls, so everyone can hear them... And why would the marinens care about if he is married or not. I bet a lot of marines get married before a tour and I also don't think the marines have much idea about marines gf or bf... It would only be a problem, if he gets reporter by his team mate. But no, he gets reported by a drug dealer and the marine, which the male actor is stupid enough to tell the truth to.. And is $2.000 for being married really a thing? It sounds like a lot of extra money. No wonder he tries to cheat... And there did he suddenly get the money to pay of the drug dealer? He should just have paid him off earlier and nothing would have happened... I bet there would be insurance money for getting wounded too... why not just the the guy that, so again it wouldn't be a problem... I think it's a very unrealistic movie with a lot if factually mistake and in real life, they most likely would have gotten away with it, if they had been smart about it...
This had potential. It started off looking as though if would be good. Yes the storyline is tired but it had potential to make it a typical yet watchable love story - like a guilty pleasure. Well there was nothing pleasurable about it, other than fast forwarding through it until the credits. The leading lady started off well but quite obviously got bored and gave up....or perhaps she had already acted to her highest ability within the first 15 minutes and then spent of the move trying to drag out her best acting. Still a million times better than the leading man who possesses the emotional range of a can of tuna. The writers touched on some really serious topics like racism with a marine shouting, "death to all Arabs," and then dropped it as quickly as a hot potato. Why even bring up something so serious only to ignore it?! The movie showed the typical American take of American soldiers in Iraq playing with Iraqi children and being saviours to all of mankind and conveniently left out the truth of what these soldiers do (aside from the racist marine wanting to kill all Arabs so perhaps a little credit is due there after all even if it was executed with the grace of a bull in a China shop). And the chemistry between the two stars? Non existent. They could have been siblings. There was no growth, no letting the viewers watch the buildup of their relationship. The whole thing was just an excuse for the leading lady to show off her singing and piano playing. Aside from that, there was zero substance. You'd be better off watching paint dry. It would contain more drama and emotion.
Well, I won't lie, the visuals were good, not exceptionally magical, but it was acceptable, the soundtrack, ok, the scenario, I can work with that, maybe a little rushed but I can live with it, I liked the political perspectives of both leads clashing, it was funny sometimes. What I hated that there were literally zero consequences for what the heroine's actions! Like the only thing she got was a pat on the back, indirectly! The hero got his legs blown, he was shamed, humiliated, belittled, then he got locked in jail for six months and was kicked out of the military, while our lovely heroine got her free medical insurance, became a mega famous rock/pop star??? Seriously?? Yes he got money too from the fake marriage, but it was all so that he could protect his family and her! She was so selfish when he was forced to live with her at first, my dude got his legs in tatters and was afraid of military persecution, but no how could he take her personal space and leave her with the consequences of marrying a marine for money *surprised pickatchu face* and she gave a special needs person the couch to sleep in? I thought she advocated for the needs of helpless people... Also, like why would the military take the word of drug dealer???? Suspicious man, with no evidence??? Why couldn't the hero and heroine say that no their marriage is real, they had so many witnesses confirming the legitimacy of their marriage or am I missing something here? And then there's Franky, my poor man Franky, was killed off, mourned and forgotten about in the span of 5 minutes :( never to be brought up ever again. I liked and hated this movie at the same time.
