Rhoma mengikuti sambil menekuni kegemaran musik. Musik ini yang diharamkan Subrata, hingga sering konflik dan puncaknya pada saat gitar kesayangan Rhoma dihancurkan oleh ayahnya dan ia diusir dari rumah. Maka Rhoma pun berkelana ke Jakarta dan mengaku bernama Budi. Ia hidup dan bergaul bersama sebuah grup pengamen. Ketika salah seorang temannya sakit parah dan membutuhkan biaya besar, dan permintaan bantuan pada ayahnya ditolak, maka Budi menjambret tas Ani (Yati Octavia) yang disuruh ayahnya mengurus surat-surat rumah. Ia membayar perawatan temannya, dan mengembalikan surat penting kepada Ani. Teman Budi tak tertolong. Ani jatuh simpati, begitu juga orangtuanya. Budi dijadikan sopir untuk Ani.
