Thanks to an exciting and story-filled rivalry with Bret "Hitman" Hart, Steve Austin became one of the most popular superstars in the WWF and Vince McMahon took notice. Plans were set in motion right after WrestleMania 13 to push Stone Cold Steve Austin higher up the cards, and the end goal was to bring Steve Austin to WrestleMania XIV to win the WWF Championship. After WrestleMania 13, Steve's feud with Bret Hart continued. The Hart Foundation were formed when Bret turned heel, and so Austin would work against the Harts while continuing his climb up the ladder. 1997 would lead to Austin becoming a 2 time tag team champion and a 2 time Intercontinental champion, but 1998 would be the year where Steve Austin would rise to the very top, becoming the WWF champion at WrestleMania and forever solidifying himself as a legend of the WWE.
