Kurt was a succesful amateur wrestler, the height of his amateur career arriving when he won a gold medal in the Summer Olympic games in 1996. After this incredible accomplishment, Kurt Angle became the interest of many wrestling promoters, two of which being Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon. After a brief visit to ECW which didn't end well and after talks with the WWF fell through in 1996, Kurt eventually signed a WWF contract in 1998. After spending a year in WWF developmental territories and working a ton of WWF dark matches, Kurt Angle made a succesful TV debut at the 1999 Survivor Series pay per view.
