Yi Long carried the image of a Shaolin warrior into the ring, while Buakaw brought the reputation of a proven Muay Thai champion with devastating low kicks, relentless pressure, and years of elite competition. Their first meeting ended with a controversial decision in Yi Long's favor, despite Buakaw appearing to control much of the action with his kicks and distance management.
