Ana, a nine year old girl, arrives with her mother to an isolated beach with the intention to rest and to know the sea. There, she discovers that they are under a terrible threat, therefore she is obligated to look for help with her father in order to save her mother. So cute, but don't be fooled, despite the beautiful graphics and charming characters, the background theme is quite heavy, as it portrays people with mental problems hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital, where little Ana's mother is also left for treatment , by her lovely husband, a man with a sad expression and sunken eyes, a lot of adventure, and amidst the daydreams and madness that help the girl Ana and her friend, visually impaired, Bruno... A truly inclusive and fun animation... With a plot twist painful, and tragic, beautiful film...
It is a wonderful story that keeps you interested and touches your heart. It deals with fundamental issues of daily life, which some people try to keep hidden.
Ana y Bruno tells the story of little Ana, who is trying to save her mother from a mental hospital before it's too late. The premise is quite simple but there's more to the story and it has some darker elements which i found unexpected. What the story lacked, was more background to the main characters, so we can connect better with them and the story. This and some plot holes and conveniences were the weakest parts of the movie for me. This film took around 10 years to finish, is the animation up there with some of today's movies? In few words, (sadly) no. But that does not mean it's bad. The characters are well designed and their movements are very fluid. But the animation can be quite inconsistent, because in some parts it does looks very pretty and in others is lacking in detail. It's not like the movie feels rushed (i mean, come on, it took over a decade to make), but it feels like the didn't know how to end this story, which is a shame because i think the story is quite original, at least for me. It reminds me of older Tim Burton movies. It's definitely worth checking out.
Honestly, this movie is the perfect way to not do animation, 3D modeling and characters movement is basic and bad, the camera moves are horrible, the characters are lame , it was a total disappointment. it is as if we saw the beginnings of animation years ago, in its most failed attempts, when today animation is something quite polished, everything that is hair is treated as a solid paste of pixels, without movements or textures, like 2d. the story well better no mention that and the plot will bore any adult and any child of over 5 years old.
The movie starts with Ana's father taking her mother and her at some isolated building near the seashore. We immediately start to ask us questions such as: what is this place? Why are they here? And without reveling too much directly, the story becomes to be clear, at the same time it becomes surreal. We then start a journey for the main character to help his mother, but she's not alone. I praised the rich characters around out protagonist and how they are all so different, but they work together to help Ana in her quest. It is a beautiful metaphor about diversity and teamwork, surrounded with goofy and touching moments. It is also a story about face our inner demons with help of our loved ones. It could be a little scary for younger children, but I think it is a great opportunity for parents to face and understand these deeper emotions using an animated movie, similar to an old fairy tale. Adults, just be ready to leave your prejudices and fears away.
Good movie!
