#TIFF21: Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. A heartwarming memory piece from one of our finest living filmmakers. Seeing this movie with a big audience was such a joyous occasion, and hearing Van Morrison's compositions pour throughout the theatre just filled me with such plain and simple happiness. The black & white photography is so easy to get lost in, perfectly capturing the mood of 60s Belfast. Each and every performance is perfectly tuned into the material; Jamie Dornan & Catriona Balfe alone make this film worth watching. Whenever this gets a wide release gather the whole family, you'll laugh a lot, then cry, then laugh some more. I just had a great time, and sometimes that's all I really need out of a movie.

Like an earlier reviewer said the set was to clean and sterile, felt to me like a theatre production rather than a gritty movie about growing up in the troubles, acting was ok especially from the little lad, but it just smacked of more political correctness, damn those pesky Protestants.

Happy B'day Kenneth Branagh Van Morrison, Belfast, Judi Dench, Colin Morgan and Kenneth Branagh. Normally, these elements alone are enough for me to love a movie. Kenneth Branagh, whose talent I never doubted, again made an "almost" good film. The biggest flaw of the movie; It's so obvious that it was shot in a studio, if the camera was stationary, I'd think I was watching a theater. Even the monocrome color palettes could not hide this fact. The junior actor Jude Hill carried the movie alone, despite the many national theater actors and actresses in the cast. PS: Watching the movie with 2160P / HDR+ image and Dolby Atmos sound increases the viewing pleasure.

"Belfast" is a Biography - Drama movie in which we follow the life of a young boy and his family during the incidents of 1960s in Belfast. They face many difficulties and they have to do something about it. I found this movie very interesting because it presented very well a serious subject from the perspective of working-class family of Belfast. The direction which was made by Kenneth Branagh who is also the writer, it was very good and he did an excellent job on the way he presented both his main characters and the incidents of 1960s in Belfast. The interpretations of Jude Hill who played as Buddy, Caitriona Balfe who played as Ma, Jamie Dornan who played as Pa, Judi Dench who played as Granny and Ciarán Hinds who played as Pop were simply amazing and their combination worked very well. Lastly, I have to say that "Belfast" is a nice movie and I highly recommend everyone to watch it.

Belfast follows the adventures of a young boy (Jude Hill) coming of age in Ireland during the 1960s and everything that involves. There's life, love, politics, and above all, movies! Jamie Dornan (Pa), Caitriona Balfe (Ma), Dame Judi Dench (Granny) and Ciarán Hinds (Pop) co-star in Belfast. Sir Kenneth Branagh directs the film from his script. The strength of Belfast rests directly on the shoulders of its incredibly talented cast. There's not a bad performance on-screen. Jamie Dornan´s performance is stellar and I am not even speaking about his musical talents. He sticks out and steals the show in this movie. When the ending credits started to roll, I did not feel satisfied. But that´s just me. Overall a very good movie, in black and white, which adds flavour to the story. It´s a very good movie but it misses something.

7/10 - effective and heartfelt story does its job and does an excellent job taking you to Belfast in the 60s, but I'm not sure it warrants the Oscar buzz it is getting (even though I adore Jamie Dornan)

I admit, it was the film who I expected be the choosen of the Oscar of this year. Because, for so many reasons, it deserves it. It is admirable acted. It propose the fair family story. It is a ball of very different emotions, powerful all. It is, just it is a pure Kenneth Branagh at the level of confession between intimates. It gives the admirable young Jude Hill. It is just usefull. For humor, portraits, atmosphere, precise analysis of the fundamental traits of a time. So, good to see it.
