Good movie!
Black Warrant has some fairly decent acting, with Jeff Fahey taking the best acting spot in this film. His acting is pretty much spot on. I completely disagree with Tom Berenger being cast in the lead role as a government hitman coming out of retirement to do one last job; its not as if his acting is not up to the task, it is. How ever his age is entirely against him. The role calls for someone fit and athletic, and Berenger is anything but. In an early scene Berenger reaches down to pull up the flooring of his yacht where his weapons are in hiding. You can almost hear the arthritic creaking of his joints as he feebly reaches for his weapons. You can note where the director cut the scene to avoid showing this unsuitability. Then there are the action scenes, what there are of them that is. Although there are a few, he is just not convincing in the role which calls for a fit athletic man, who even when older would still be fit to perform his sniping tasks. A sniper needs to be fit, and incredibly disciplined to hold motionless for hours, and to have the precision needed to take the shot, and ex-fill the location. Berenger looks barely fit enough to swing a golf club. Then there is Cam Gigadet, who just doesn't have the acting chops for this role. Lots of clumsy dialogue through out the film, lowers the quality of the film, which to me barely earns a "B" rating.

I had never heard about this movie prior to sitting down to watch it here in 2023. But I figured I would give it a chance, as it had Tom Berenger on the cast list. For an action thriller then writers Michael Paré, D. Glase Lomond, Joshua A. Cohen and Javier Reyna managed to put together a fair enough script. I mean, "Black Warrant" was a watchable movie for sure, but it was a fairly generic script and storyline though. Now, I am not saying that it makes the movie bad or anything, not at all, but it just makes for a movie that feels like the majority of every other action thriller out there. So yeah, you're not exactly in for an outstanding movie experience here from director Tibor Takács. The acting performances in "Black Warrant" are okay, and they do have some good talents on the cast list, with the likes of Tom Berenger, Jeff Fahey and Cam Gigandet. "Black Warrant" is suitable for a single viewing, but that is also just about all there is to it, because the writers didn't really spice up the formula with anything noteworthy. The action sequences in "Black Warrant" were so-so. They worked out well enough, but they weren't exactly thrilling or particularly exciting to sit through. Tom Berenger is in his 70s, and it is showing on the screen; not that his acting is bad or anything, but he just doesn't really musters a whole lot of intense action in this movie. My rating of "Black Warrant" lands on a five out of ten stars.
It's slim pickings for anything actually watchable in the B-films crime-action category these days, especially since Bruce Willis has been in almost every one of them, but this one was actually enjoyable. It could've easily been much better with a better director - I'd say a more experienced director, but it seems Tibor Takacs having directed fifty films hasn't improved his filmmaking. Most scenes lacked urgency, and better cast direction was needed, and the overall feel of the film felt like it was directed by an amateur filmmaker. The story however, albeit bits and pieces from other better films, still was an enjoyable one-time watch. The twist was well executed, and the story had a consistently decent flow to it, aside from a few plot and technical issues. The cinematography was decent, and the score surprisingly fitting and bearable, a rare find in B films these days. All casting and performances were spot-on and it's good to see the iconic Tom Berenger still has his acting chops. It's a fun no-regrets one-time watch if you're a fan of this genre, and it's a well deserved 7/10 from me.
Tom berenger. Remember him. Way long ago, he was on the verge of real stardom. It didn't quite happen. Who knows why? Anyway its nice to see him. And here he is in a turkey. Its stupid, dopey, ridiculous, non sensical. You keep saying why did they say that . Or do that. Whatever. And yet, and yet. There are moments of real tension and excitement. The movie looks good and the direction is just fine. Things certainly move right along. Even the story is all right. The acting on the other hand stinks. Or let's just say there's little of it. So there you have it. Not worth plunking down bucks at the box office, but at home on a saturday nite for free. Why not.
