When downloading this movie from one particular site it was rated 8.4 Then I looked it up on IMDB where it was rated 7.3 Right after watching the movie and adding it to my list I noticed its rating dropped to 6.4 So in just 2 hours this movie lost 2 full points and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have reached its lowest rating. The fast dropping didn't really surprise me as there was terribly bad acting especially during the first half. Plot developments were badly introduced and lacked any sense of involvement in the story. To make the disaster complete, during the last half the plot developed so unlikely that my idea was that some amateur script writer was hired to complete an already murky story with shallow characters. See it if you have some 2 hours left on a rainy day. Otherwise skip it. You won't miss much.
Editor somehow forgot how to do his job on this movie. Yet it's truly an enjoyable flick, for sure, along with some good acting too! Scenario/story is a yarn.
City of Salt tells a story... One that someone from SLC Utah can truly understand. I've lived in Utah my whole life, and this storyline rings so sadly true. Utah has a lot of work to do, and this is just one step in the right direction. Awareness is so so important. The message screams at you, but in a way that most probably wouldn't expect. Lauren is beyond amazing as 'Theo'. I personally know how hard this film was worked on, and what kind of budget they had. It came out absolutely stellar. Stacylynn (Jessica Doran) is an actress FILLED with emotion and I love her! Jake (William Doran) portrays an emotionally beaten down father and political figure oh so beautifully! Definitely watch it, but watch with an open mind, and and even more open heart <3 I rated this the way I did, because I believe there is ALWAYS room for improvement, especially when it comes to film, but again, I know there was so much love that went in to this film.
Great movie beautiful camera work. The main actress killed it.
Reviews must be from relatives or sponsors. No way this film warrants 5! Really wanted to like this flic. HOWEVER: no matter how poignant and awesome the story line, the message cannot be realized over the sub par acting. 1 hour 55 minutes of hoping it would get better. The cinematography and score is awesome but lost in the flaky theatrical performances. This film would be awesome had they invested in a cadre of more talented actors. Sorry, but delivery is important and the message of this film is lost waiting for actors to meet minimum muster. Actors tried too hard to appear as their roll.
This poetic tragedy reminds me of Romeo & Juliet but with more twists. You can tell the filmmaker knew about Greek and Shakespearean tragedies. I appreciated the fact that the story was not told in a linear way. The cinematography was gorgeous, the music was stellar, and the leads were great. Not going to lie......I may or may not have cried multiple times. There is also a scene that happens during the credits that I almost missed. Stay for the credits! The ending is not what you'd expect. Really hoping for a sequel.
So many topics that need to be talked about right now, I have a feeling this movie will get a ton of hate because of the topics people want to keep swept under the rug. These people have balls.
For people inside of Utah - this movie should hit home hard! For people outside of Utah, this movie provides a glimpse into the complex culture in Salt Lake City Utah, and perhaps the LDS community - while echoing issues that impact us all in America today. Every person should watch this movie - it is layered with difficult topics that are swept under the rug and rarely discussed. This movie will help to open these conversations and bring healing to families, communities, individuals - as EVERYONE is impacted by these issues in one way or another. Lauren Catherine as Theo - someone to watch! Yes, there are some less than stellar acting as this is low budget film with tons of new people on the screen. But, there are a handful of great actors so it is easy to stay engaged in the story line. I was hooked from the beginning to end, with some twists in the middle. The call is true and real - everyone needs to step up to make a change for acceptance, kindness, and the ability to be authentic in who we are. Put away the masks - Let's get real and live in love, faith, and hope for the future. Things have to change and now is the time.
Trying to write this spoiler free.... I thought it was really well done! The framing and the depth of field were amazing. The music was well done and helped form the feelings and emotional response. I am a photographer so I got really caught up in the imagery and the composition. It was that of films you would see on the big screen! We really enjoyed the young lady that played Theo (she did an amazing job!) Some acting wasn't as strong as others but that is with any film/show. I loved the story, it is touching on some sensitive topics that some aren't ready to hear or face. I hope many can gain some support watching this film - knowing they aren't alone. The ending was full of emotions. The film was done so well. When you take note that the whole production came in under 50k the quality of the film is beyond impressive. Excited to see what this production team can bring to the screen next!
