Camille Keaton returns to defend herself in Cry for the Bad man, a low-budget grindhouse-style home-invasion film set largely in a remote house on a dead end drive. Keaton is of course famous for starring as Jennifer Hills in thew original I Spit on Your Grave, which sees her taking extreme revenge against a gang of small town men who assaulted her. Keaton's character here has a different name, but it is easy to see her as an older version of Jennifer. But even with a relatively short running time of 74 minutes, some scenes just drag on. A lot of the dialogue verges on inane as the director seems to be stalling to pad the film out to feature length. The acting earns about a c+, and a few gore effects at least should satisfy horror fans. But unless you are a fan of former fashion model and cult actress Camille Keaton and want to see her in a substantial role still defending herself against all comers while in her 70s, this one is skippable.

Home invasion film could have been good till the characters do stupid things... as usual. Bad a$$ lady defending her home from 3 thugs that tasked to terrorize her to give up her home or something. Crooked cop doesnt seem like he cares. Wounded 2 baddies and let the worse one walk off in a hostage exchange for her dumb daughter who happens to stand around and chit chat about school days till the bad guys capture her, turning the situation around. Did i mention she lets the bad guy take his pistol back before leaving? Who does that? Did she forget why they brought guns to her home in the first place? How dumb can characters get? Ohh... i get it. Stretched it's 20 min duration to 1hr. Fair nuff.

Just watched the UK TV premiere of this under the title "The Last House", but under any name it's a stinker. Camille Keaton starred in the original and very notorious "I Spit on Your Grave". Here she is again, taking on a bunch of no good country guys, but this time instead of rape they are after her property, which she stubbornly refuses to sell. Things get violent. Very violent. There is some very graphic gore on show by way of shotgun blasts and knives, although the effects aren't terribly special they still pack a punch. Which is about the only good thing on offer here. The acting and script are atrocious, despite the movie's relatively short running time some scenes feel like slow motion. And despite being a violent home invasion movie I found it more funny than scary, some moments had me laughing out loud. One guy (they are all brothers, by the way) gets shot in the stomach, his guts are hanging out but instead of calling for medical help the one brother simply gets the first aid kit out and then tells him to get on with the job! Another has his right hand blown off but it is clearly still there underneath the bandage. And so on, and so on. I'm scoring this crap 3/10, if it wasn't for the gore then it would be less. Oh, and the over the top soundtrack just adds to the amusement. Cry for the Bad Man? More like Cry, this is a Bad Movie!

Samuel Farmer's far from subtle 'Cry for the Bad Man' (2019) aka 'The Last House' sure 'aint gonna win any high-falutin' prizes for boldly re-inventing the cinematic wheel, but so help me, I really dug on this low budget, bloodily ballistic, mongoose nasty little B-Movie! And the sublimely sinister shotgun siren Camille Keaton is still one awesomely delicious death dealer! Just like the immortal retrograde rapscallion 'Ralphus', this grisly grindhouse gut-spiller is short, direct and gruesomely sweet! And there was something wholly edifying about watching the indomitable Keaton gorily High-Nooning these home-invading skells! 'If you try to wolf your way into Camille's Home Sweet Home, she's gonna' put a hot mess of bullets into ya' dome!' Like good whisky, fiesty red-headed Exploitation Icon Camille Keaton didn't get old, she just got better!

THE LAST HOUSE (2019, aka CRY FOR THE BAD MAN) is one that caught my eye. It's posited as a 1970s throwback, a gritty home invasion thriller with a title deliberately reminiscent of the Craven movie, a film made with explicit grindhouse sensibilities. The similarities are made all the more apparent with the casting of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE's Camille Keaton in the lead role. She plays a widow living in a nice house in a small town who refuses to budge when three goons show up making an offer to buy up her property. Before long Keaton gets her guns out and bloodshed ensues. Sadly, this turns out to be a micro budgeted indie with very little story, so it ends up being endlessly padded just to get up to that short 74 minute running time. The dialogue is vapid, the characterisation nil, and a greater emphasis on violence doesn't make up for all of the failings elsewhere. A tough watch, purely on how bad it is.

Wanting to take over her property, a recently-widowed homeowner is forced to fight back when the sons of a real-estate mogul in her small-town home arrive at her house intending to force her to sell to them, leading to a deadly cat-and-mouse game of survival and control of the house. There wasn't much to like about this one. The film's only real good qualities come from the fact that this gets to the invasion incredibly quickly and continues on for nearly the rest of the film. As a series of cat-and-mouse chasing around the house blasting the place to pieces trying to get the upper hand, this gets incredibly fun when you realize that for one the home-owner has the drop on the intruders and is able to hold her own against the dim-witted sons who are outmatched and ill-equipped for the ensuing fight resulting in some brutal gore pieces. However, that provides the key for one of the main flaws here as there's no tension or suspense in a film where the hero has the advantage over the villains for just about the entire running time since they never have any kind of advantage in the situation. As well, the entire plotline and general setup for the film is entirely cliche and predictable. Nothing about the group makes them intimidating or threatening, and the idea of taking forever to get to the finale due to the incompetence of the three of them simply standing around talking with her instead of doing anything to try to get their way makes for a dull time. The motivation of going after her house for the land because they're doing a housing development in the area is completely obvious and illogical, while the strategy of going after the house against his father's wishes anyway is simply pointless considering all the talk about trying to be better men rather than losers. It all makes for a frustrating and underwhelming experience despite the frequent activity going on. Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

The story is a less than straightforward thriller that starts off with cool artistic shots of apparent tragedy. It really opens up to the more tension based thriller that it is soon there after. The concept isn't new, and "Cry For The Bad Man" clearly pays tribute to early 70's grindhouse. Most of what the film showcases is classic "woman versus bad man" suspense mixed with a lot of carnage. The acting isn't stellar, but it maintains a strong enough presence to create recognizable characters, if not cliche, so that the story flows. There isn't a lot of down time or clunkiness to "Cry For The Bad Man". Exposition is minimal, straightforward and substantive. The dialog is short and direct and the overall story arc is entertaining to watch unfold. The special effects are quality, practical effects and atmospheric suspenseful moments of tension. Shadowy scenes blend with gunfire and bloodshed. All of which is very reminiscent of classic grindhouse. Although "Cry For The Bad Man" isn't at the top of it's game, minor scenes where some characters lose momentum, it is a good, intense, and brutal genre piece worth checking out.

Ok, what is there to say about this one that hasn't been said many times before about other such productions? Clearly, the budget had a huge impact on the development, but heae me out, because this is different on one level. Instead of relying on gore, torture or kills, trying to make something that looks more natural, like movie natural I mean, they got stuck on the dialogue. There are a few such scenes in the movie, but this happens because every one of them is occupied by lots and lots of talking, related to the plot sure, but dragged for miles and miles. It is my first such experience with a horror, where they decide to go some sort of Tarantino way perhaps, with some Carpenter audio and believe it or not the most brown blood I've seen seen in movies. Not related to red whatsoever, but completely brown, people bleeding for too much, yet, most of the movies, no kills happen. The characters just do a lot of stand-ups one with the other, and talk and talk, and yet, they don't seem to be able to talk their problems out you know. Anyway, I can not recommend Cry for the Bad Man, but if anyone else sees this, can they please put their comment and opinion about all the talking that has being going on here. Seriously, I was surprised that they focused a movie on this alone, instead of horror, suspense, tension, something related to the genre. Cheers!
