A typical middle-class suburban family suddenly have the strangest and eeriest of experiences happening right in their very home, to all the members of the family. These range from simple skin allergies to elaborate geometric skin markings, from photos disappearing from their frames to birds crashing into their windows. As their kids Jesse (Dakota Goyo) and Sam (Kadan Rockett) seem to be the targets of the unseen assailants, Lacy (Felicity Huffman) and Daniel (Josh Hamilton) have to race against time and the unknown to save their family. Can they? "Dark Skies" straddles the genres of horror and science fiction. It is not bad at all. It is not overly ambitious. It achieves the goals it sets out to do effectively. Of course, there are typical horror clichés and convenient coincidences all around but the execution manages to make it work. The main actors have some preposterous things to do and say, yet they still manage to pull it off somehow and make us care about them. I am not going to reveal here what exactly was going on in this film, but I can say that this could be a very good episode of the X- Files if Mulder and Scully were there.

Not a particularly good movie in most ways. The script is quite weak. Weird stuff happens, the family goes to the police or another authority figure, then they get accused of being crazy. This happens again and again - like really weird, unexplainable stuff that, when they tell people about it, they should be like, "Hm, that's real odd..." Thankfully, the film is very effective in the one place it really counts: the horror. Whenever the do appear (which is delightfully rare), an enormous shiver ran down my spine and I could barely watch. Those scenes are so perfectly shot. And no CGI. The actors are all pretty good (with maybe the exception of the youngest kid). J.K. Simmons steals the show, though, as an expert on aliens.

This movie was actually scary, it even scared me talking about it to a friend of mine like a month after seeing it. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes horror movies or anyone looking for a good scare. It has lots of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. All in all this movie was a really good movie for getting scared, it wasn't perfect but in my opinion these types of movies are meant to scare you and i think this one accomplished that. So if you are just looking for a movie for scary movie night then this might just be the movie for you. Thanks for your time i hope you enjoy this movie as much as i did, that is all.

Surprised is what I am at the 6+ rating average for this way below average sci-fi horror thriller, as it is marketed as being. It starts off slow, so as to kill 1/3 of the movie time, gets even slower in the next third and then dive bombs through the last 1/3 with no real ending just a simple, Shamalan type idiotic ending that makes you seriously question your own sanity at having sat through such a worthless piece of junk. What astounds me whenever I see a movie as bad as this is the incredibly large modern day budgets and salaries for the movie stars, and yet todays science fiction movies are a pale shadow of the excellent and gripping movies of the past, made on tiny budgets and paying their actors pennies on today's dollars. What surprised me the most about the reviews of this movie is the fact that the supposed movie going public reviewers were so entertained by basically an empty movie without any special effects, no aliens to be seen and just wind blown scenes that supposedly are entertaining. Please skip this thanksgiving turkey as it is undercooked and seriously tasteless. StocktonRob

This really was the best alien-movie i have ever seen. There was lot of things happening throughout the whole movie, and i never got bored. It also feature a few surprises which at least i could not see coming, and the ending came totally out of the blue. I would recommend this movie to anybody looking for a good and entertaining movie, which will send numerous chills down their spines. But i do think that even the most serious watchers of movies about alien invasions and such (not talking Will Smith now), will find this film quite entertaining. It puts stuff in your mind you probably will want to get rid of as soon as possible, and it definitely gives pictures to the worst nightmare that could happen to parents.
