After you have a cold and brutal opening scene that looks really promising I was really interested to see where this movie is going. But a couple of minutes into the story and our main characters are leaving the remote monastery where the movie begins and after that the movie turns really slow and the only horror aspects consists of weird dreams and visions. The whole middle part of the movie was really slow and not particularly interesting. I really enjoyed the beginning because it was scary, tense and had a great atmosphere and I genuinely enjoy movies with a snowy setting. But that whole second act was just awful to be honest. There are some pacing issues and the movie really loses its momentum after the promising start. Then towards the third act the movie picks up the momentum again but still the payoff wasn't enough for it to make it a great horror movie. It is stylish and really well shot and I think this movie could have been a lot better. [5,0/10]

I love a good horror movie involving religion. It wasn't the scariest movie ever, but to me, anything having to do with the devil/demons really gives me the creeps. It was a very original story line & kept me guessing almost the whole time. Even after it ended, it leaves many things up to interpretation. That being said, I do have questions that I wish could be answered. For example, the opening scene shows a ritualistic murder involving the main antagonist(?) & the "prophecy", yet we never find out what that was about? Also, you think the antagonist is the antagonist due to the opening scene, but what he's trying to do the whole movie is an action of a protagonist in a way??? There's scenes and characters that, after the movie ended & I sat on it, I feel like they have something major to do with the plot the way the movie was set up (Laura & the grandfather), but once again.. It didn't seem fully addressed & I think it's just to interpretation I guess? The movie left me with many many questions, but I still really enjoyed it & highly recommend.

I was hesitant to watch this because the trailer made it seem like it was going to be a b grade horror with bland acting and a predictable storyline, but luckily that is not the case. It's a decent production, the actors know what they're doing, the visual effects are believable and gory and it has decent plot twists that make it a very enjoyable viewing experience. It's not a scary horror, more like a paranormal thriller. It starts off strong with beheadings and the making a book out of human skin because the prophecy is passed down from generation to generation and is tattooed on the people that are beheaded.

Yooooooo this one is for all y'all Religious Horror movie lovers. The thing about this genre that fascinates and pleases me is obviously the Biblical theme. And this is no exception. The movie starts off with a very dark scene which introduced us to the antagonist, the Priest set out to destroy evil by any means necessary. After which we are introduced to several other characters, including a virgin who got pregnant with twin boys, a priest who gave up his priestly duties so that he can go be with his pregnant girlfriend, and the story unfolds. I loved almost everything about this one. Low budget but didn't feel like it. The characters, the settings, the pace, the directing, all spot on and the bloodiness was just enough to keep you glued. It's definitely not kid friendly, which should be the norm for this genre, I don't understand horror movies that try to be PG. I said "I loved almost everything" because I didn't like the ending. Which, like most horror movies, felt rushed and without any explanation of how things got there and what was going on. It was like they just had to end it so let's do it. The death of the Cardinal made no sense. What happened to Father Fox that he suddenly turned into this murderous beast? What were the meaning of his premonitions? Why was Laura crying when she held the baby? Why didn't Father Fox throw the baby off the cliff? What made him change his mind? How was he brought back to life? So many questions. I wonder if there will be a sequel. It would be interesting to see how the boys grow up and how the church tries to stop the evil one.

I'll keep this review brief. The movie has some gorgeous cinematography; the acting is all right (I really like the protagonist, the male priest); and the concept involving immaculate conception + AntiChrist/Messiah twins is compelling. I also feel the movie's opening act, where the protagonist first goes to see the woman who gives the immaculate birth, was well done: there were some really creepy and suspenseful scenes in the first portion But the movie quickly loses steam midway. Here, the movie starts dipping into all kinds of visions, dreams, romance-triangles, and premonitions etc. All of these scenes were just more annoying than interesting. And all the horror and creepiness that we saw in the opening act vanishes midway. Good concept, but a missed execution.
