Good movie!

I went to see this movie with my kids ages 12 and 9 having never given the books much more than a passing glance (and not having seen the first movie either). It is a well paced film with some good comedy and Devon Bostick completely nails the annoyingness of an older brother caught between being a grown up to the middle schoolers and a child to the adults. However, when it tries to make some serious points about family relationships from stereotypical characters and gross situations it loses it for me. I would have preferred it if either a) the film lost the narration and seriousness and was just played for laughs or b) the director was forced to watch the box set of The Wonder Years TV series which trod these boards more successfully in an earlier era. By the way, my children have read the books; my daughter (9) thought the first film was better and my son (12) preferred this one.
I think that rodrick rules was the best movie out of all of them. The last great Wimpy Kid movie. Mr. Heffley especially is the real eye candy in this one. The van in the film is also back in action. Academy worthy performances all around. Just as good if not better than other movies.
This movie is quite funny, but pieces of the film have been stolen from the third book,The Last Straw.Holly Hills doesn't come in until the third, and the pooped his pants piece is in the third, too. Fregely is not even in the second and neither is Patty Farrel . In the second book, Rodrick and Greg never become friends and never get chased by the P.E teacher.Greg doesn't meet Holly Hills at the old peoples home, and goes into the lady's toilet in the summer holidays, not when Rodrick and Greg go there because of Rodrick's wild party.Greg doesn't do the talent show with Rowely, but tries out with Scotty Douglas and doesn't get through to the audience.
This one is by far the best. It's very interesting and never loses your attention. Even though there is one general plot, it's fun to see the little side plots that go on throughout the film.
A few weeks ago, my best friend and I were looking for movies to rent, mostly for ones we could make fun of, as we enjoy doing that on occasion. We saw this movie and thought "Well, here's just another really horrible movie for kids that we can make fun of" so we rented it. When we watched it, we were surprised to find this movie genuinely hilarious! Despite the somewhat stereotypical characters of the dumb older brother and the dorky younger one, I found the chemistry between the two very refreshing, and the writing style to be witty. This comedic family film perfectly portrayed the most annoying parts about having an older sibling, with the fighting, the yelling, and the wacky adventures that always seem to happen when your parents aren't looking. I found this film to be a refreshing and genuinely hilarious tale of what it's like to have an older sibling, and I would recommend this to anyone looking for good entertainment.
