Look, I may be a retired cameraman but some things just bug me. e.g...episode 2, Simon has seen his pregnant girlfriend and returns home late. Takes his top of to go to bed and wham! Cut to another angle and there it is back on! Petty? O.k. Then plot holes all over the shop. When did the lovely Suranne get time to book her alcoholic business partner into an intervention clinic?...would a GP tell a patient that her husbands having an affair and then engage her to follow cheating husband? Nah!...where do you get a drink at 12.12 at night? A club maybe?...call another G.P. And get her to reveal that girlfriend is pregnant and in abortion clinic, Nah!. I dunno, I hope production improves! The 4k is lovely and some scenes look very natural and maybe just using ambient light, it looks good..let's hope the production gets better.
Weak storyline. Gemma is beyond irritating. She's fickle and foolish but thinks she's cunning and bright. Bratty son runs away any chance he gets. It's just all so messy and boring.
The story started off well, but it kind of ran out of steam with what to write for the last few episodes. The story was not realistic. This is a seemingly intelligent woman whose husband has an affair, a two year affair with their friend's daughter who ends up pregnant. She enlists the help of a patient to follow her husband and spy on him. This patient is being abused by her boyfriend. The doctor confronts and threatens the boyfriend, very strange thing to do. She promises she will prescribe sleeping pills to the patient is she does this for her. What sane person gets a patient to spy for her. Hire a private detective, he would of done a better job. She throughout the first few episodes finds out that her husband is a liar and is unable to tell her the truth about anything. Most women would of left after the first chance of trying to save their marriage, but she seems to expect that this deceitful man will change. He doesn't, and when she pressures him for the truth he still keeps denying everything and yet she knows he is lying again. Her son seems to be neglected and her obsession is with her husband. Then she wants to bring him down and destroy him. Why? She knows what he is like. Leave. Leave your so called friends who have the weirdest concept of love, especially her co-worker. Move to another city or town. You're a doctor, and from this show not a very good one at that. She did some really bizarre and weird things to get back at him. The guy forged her signature, was a lousy business man, spent all her money, had an affair for two years with your friend's daughter, got her pregnant and was told her was a terrible and useless businessman and yet she put all her energy into this guy. What a waste.
While at first I found this series super interesting, things soon changed. I found myself constantly asking myself wtf? How is Gemma a doctor ? She seems so incredibly unstable. While I can fully understand some of her actions and feelings, she tends to go a bit too crazy too often. She doesn't seem to care about her son or anyone else but herself. She keeps trying to make people pay with no regard for her son. She desperately wants people to pitty her and when they don't she loses her mind. She loves people feeling sorry for her, and wants all the blame on Simon, but when people call her out on her actions she won't have it. Then we get to season 2, things get worse when you thought they couldn't. Episode 1 immediately makes you dislike her. She uses James and takes him to the party just to piss off Simon...after insisting Tom attend and doesn't care if she makes her son uncomfortable. Again solely caring about HER feelings not her sons. He moves out and she can't get why....so the logical thing to do is follow him and question his friend. I got a headache after that. Show highly overrated and a bit of a waste of time.
I specifically came and pulled out my laptop in order to review this series. That either proves that I have too much time on my hands, or that this series was so bad I felt it was only fair to let others know. You decide. It started off really well, the acting was (for the most part) quite good. Suranne Jones does a good job at making her character likeable at the beginning and the story is quite gripping. After season 1 it all got a bit much and I found myself constantly regretting the decision to keep going. The storyline got ridiculous, none of the characters were likeable anymore and the script was awful. Her face also started to annoy me. Please don't even get me started on the ending. At one point I found myself hoping that everyone would just die so at least the ending would have given me some sort of closure. THE VERY END SCENE WHERE SHE TALKS TO THE CAMERA COMPLETELY INSULTED MY INTELLIGENCE. What the hell were they thinking? That ending was so crap that I would have probably preferred my TV blew up and I was never able to watch anything again. Do yourself a favour and spend 10 hours with your family instead of watching this utter crap.
