Falling for Love in Niagara

Good movie!

There is no possible way that the 2 "romantic" lead characters filmed their parts together! It's like watching an old movie where the lead played their own twin. They awkwardly each stay on their own half of the screen and look at each other as of they're avoiding eye contact and just looking past the other person as if they're not really there. Especially the guy! He looks as if they replaced the romantic lead at the last minute and just superimposed this guy into each scene and hoped we wouldn't notice! Ugh! It's impossible to ignore! It also means there is absolutely no chemistry either. Don't waste your time . . .

Niagara Falls is the backdrop for this Jocelyn Hudon (one of my favourites) /Dan Jeanotte vehicle and arguably should receive top billing with the two stars, as the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. The plot is similar to what we've seen before: Hudon's Madeline is a very organised organiser whose fiance gets annoyed with that trait and breaks up with her five weeks before the wedding. And five weeks before their Niagara Falls honeymoon (which she has planned to the hour), so Madeline goes with her sister and there meets Jeanotte's Mike, a tour guide who is Madeline's opposite. He teaches her to step outside of her comfort zone...and of course, after some early hostility, they fall in love. It's your classic Hallmark plot, nothing new or imaginative. However, "Falling in Love in Niagara" works thanks to the stunning backdrop - at times it's like a travel doco / love letter to Niagara Falls - and the chemistry between Hudon and Jeanotte, which is off-the-charts good.

The first 20 minutes of this film were exceptionally sharp. It was funny, relatable and really reels you in. Arguably the best first act of any Hallmark romcom I've ever seen. And I've seen 250+ The last hour was painful. I will describe this in equally painful detail below: Script suddenly became weak. The initial meeting between the romantic leads had so much potential. But the premise for their encounter was eye rolling and poorly written. I can't stress enough how funny the pre-Niagara scenes were...and the complete absence of humor once they landed in Buffalo. The romantic lead's relationship was bizarre. He was her travel guide. His boss was totally ok with his romantic gestures to the customer, who obviously was in an emotionally vulnerable position. He also became borderline obsessive towards her in a way that would scare away most women in real life. The plot point where the sister was asked to be the photog for people she just met also felt implausible. I get the need to give the romantic leads space...but the way in was written felt ridiculous. Except for the romantic leads (and her fiancé) - who all did great in their roles (all things considered) - the acting was super wooden. The secondary character's romantic subplot lacked even in the remotest amount of chemistry. It was so bad that it appears the director just tried to quietly wrap it up with a couple perfunctory lines at the end. I could go on and on. There was a thread on the hallmark subreddit praising this film, and after watching the film, I've got to wonder if it was written by someone associated with the film.

Worst yet! Idiot heroine. Must have loved getting kicked down. Don't want to see this type of woman ever again. I would have loved to have pushed her over the falls. Get rid of your formula, Hallmark. Buy some new romance novels and make some good movies like you did years ago. Each time you think she is going to see the light she falls back into her old, safe ways. The formula has gotten so worn out. We make bets on the minute the big blow up will happen. I win most of the time - you are so predictable. Why would he want her after the way she treated him? Would ha be given it 0 stars if it were possible.

I really enjoyed this movie but it seems I am one of few. At the beginning of it, with the female lead character being over the top with her demanding ways, I was getting pretty annoyed with her. Why would Hallmark make her so annoying? I didn't like the fiancé any better and wasn't surprised by the break up. Also, the sister going with her on the "sister moon" was trite but then you find out about their chaotic childhood and a couple of things make sense. Going on and allowing tour guide Mike to show our lead how to enjoy an adventure was fun. It moved a bit faster than reality but it's not reality so just go with it. As usual with Hallmark, the ex fiancé shows up and promises he's changed, she's different and please come back! This greatly disappoints me because he shows almost immediately that he has not changed at all. In fact, he rushes her to pack and leave immediately. What he doesn't tell her is it's because he wants to play golf the next day. What I truly enjoyed the most in this movie is Jocelyn Hudon's energy and willingness to learn how to enjoy the adventures "Mike" has in store for them. Dan Jeannotte never disappoints and Jocelyn Hudon is always fun and energetic to watch. The beauty of Niagara Falls was awesome to see again. Last time for me was in person many years ago. While the writing wasn't impressive, this was a fun way to spend a couple hours when you can't go there physically. Worst line-"Jason" says ,"you're going to have to stop nagging me", while he was planning golf rather than talking to her.

The female character is horrible! She should stick with her horrible ex-fiancé who broke it off with her because they are both no good. Her more than him, I was actually on the fiancé's side when he ended it because she was way too selfish with how she tried to make everything her way. I couldn't stand her already just in the beginning, and then when the fiancé comes back into the picture, she's just such a jerk to the lead male and some new friends she made. Her sister too! She totally lies to her sister. She promises to go to the lead male's performance, but doesn't when her ex-fiancé comes for her; she had just kissed the lead male too. Then when she gets re-engaged to the fiancé, he says he wants to leave Niagara right away, and despite the lead female saying she would go to some new friend's wedding, she quickly gives in and agrees to miss another event she promised to go to. Plus, what was with that super sucky karaoke scene; so bad. And the end sucked too! It's these people's wedding, and they are all worried about the lead female because she's not there. Then the lead female rushes in and everyone cheers! Oh what fun! Not! The fact the lead male was like I don't care that you were totally a douche to me and forgives her right away is just yuck. I'm sorry this one was just ugh to me! It gets 2 stars because it was fun to see some of the Niagara attractions. This one is definitely going into the I never want to watch again vault.

Jocelyn Hudon is just incredibly alluring here. And not just her blue jeans. She fills out her top more than most Hallmark heroines. I can't overstate just how incredible this woman looks. Her acting skills? Who cares? Basically, like many Hallmark movies, they picked a location and applied one of their ten scripts to it. The real star here is the Niagra Falls travelogue. The characters bounce from one tourist attraction to another. And there's great footage of the Falls. And look for the cameramen in the boat ride. Apparently they couldn't hide them. Oh, and the sister is pretty too. The leading man? More boring than oatmeal.

Sadly this Movie was a Semi Disappointment! As a Travelogue for Niagara Falls it was Excellent. But as a Romantic Comedy Movie it was Extremely Disappointing. Personally, I found it Extremely Difficult to like, or even care about, any of the characters involved. I actually found the scenery of the Falls, as well as its Numerous Attractions, to be far more interesting than the actual Story Line of the Movie's Plot. The Lead Actress, while Attractive and Perky at Times, unfortunately, allowed her personality and inept Decision Making to totally destroy her like ability as a character in the movie. Additionally, Neither of the Two Boyfriends, especially the Ex, were up to the challenge of saving this Totally Unrealistic and Uninteresting Film!! Capping it All Off with a Ridiculous, Unrealistic, and Obviously Rushed Ending Simply Cemented this Film's Destiny as an Absolute Mediocre Movie.

It's rare that I watch Hallmark movies...sometimes the Christmas season's flicks are okay. But this one I watched because I love Niagara Falls, but haven't been there in over 20 years. And that leads to complaint #1...the scenic photography of the beautiful Niagara gorge was very poor...looked to me like cheap drones. The plot? Well, nothing new here. Well, maybe that's not quite true. It begins with the premise that the young lead woman is to rigid in her life and gets dumped just 5 weeks before her wedding and planned honeymoon in Niagara Falls. But she goes anyway, but with her sister, instead of a husband. And, of course, meets someone she hates at first, but falls in love with. Okay. Not bad. A bit mundane. Jocelyn Hudon was perky enough as the female lead. I wasn't very interested in Dan Jeannotte as the male lead. And Chris Violette...he's an actor? No thank you. So no, overall, I can't recommend this.
