This is a romantic drama with a beautiful flow, that starts light and then through a brilliant twist delves deeper into the role of relationships, marriage and love. While it delves deeper it is still an easy watch but it definitely poses questions that most of us have reflected on from time to time. The chemistry between the main leads is undeniable. The male lead's acting was compelling and they were both stunning. After I finished it I wanted to rewatch which cannot be a bad thing! It was also great watching New York by day and by Night. There were also some daring scenes that were great. Don't miss it, Highly recommended.
... attractive-actors, better than average production values & the city views are highlights of this romance-drama... a fantasy based story that half way through come's the one twist on which the entire plot-storyline of the movie rests... it would have gained one rating point had not the ending be so typical Hollywood ... appears mostly Christmas & romance films make up the bulk of viewing choices.. as they go, this one's not terrible, yet definitely not worth going out of your way to see... fits right in a Netflix lineup, satisfying audiences speaking the language, they are a worldwide entertainment-conglomerate after-all.
After years of waiting, the movie by two popular Turkish stars was released with a lot of publicity, but it soon turned into a huge disappointment. The last call for Istanbul has a weak and trivial scenario. A woman (Bern Saat) mixed-up her luggage with another person at the airport, and this is the beginning of getting to know Mehmet (Kivanch Tatlitou). At first, the viewer expects to see a twisty and drawn-out story from the two main characters of the film. While basically there are no other actors in the movie, this is a douet of Beren Saat and Kivanch Tatlitug, who have to carry the burden of the story. There are so many weaknesses in the scenario structure and raw storytelling that it is impossible to count them all: Why did she keep her cell phone and wallet in her luggage on a long flight of 11 hours? So what's in that handbag? Why did she open and check the luggage after receiving it at the airport? How did the guitar that Mehmet carried affect the story? Why was the Asian man absent from the hotel and arriving the next day? He was neither with his family nor in the hotel. So where could he be? Shouldn't the woman have looked for her missing luggage more seriously? She would go to the police or look for an Asian man instead of going to New York to have fun. Is Fake Orgasm Club the only place to see in New York? Or the only thing that can be done in New York and not in Istanbul?! About the acting: It was said that Beren saat and Kivanc Tatlitug are the best actors of their generation in Turkey. Those who follow them are very familiar with how they play and their projects. In the last call for Istanbul, we see a very weak and disappointing act from both of them. Kivanch gave a weaker performance than usual, but Beren saat's performance was worse than anything and hit the audience like a sledgehammer. Uncontrollable, careless, and fake. She was trying to look sexy and seductive, but she was more ridiculous. Constant laughs for no reason throughout the movie, even when she was sleeping on the couch; that big stupid smile on her face; even, oh my god, she was laughing during sex! Exaggerated body language; uncontrollable facial and lip movements; terrible English, just like an amateur actor. It can be claimed that even Kivanc's acting was affected. The design of clothes and make-up had no definition. I can say with confidence that Beren Saat came to New York with clothes from her own closet, because we know her choice of clothes. No matter which part of the movie we remove, nothing changes because the parts of the story are not connected to each other. The first 40 minutes of the movie is a boring story of a couple having fun. Maybe they thought that because they are having fun, the audience must have fun too! The ending of the movie was another big weakness. This couple did not reach any conclusion about their problem. The woman gave up her dream job and returned to her country! Was this what the audience expected? Wouldn't it be better to reach a third solution that would be win-win for both? I can say that the dream of playing a movie in New York tempted them. If this script was made in Istanbul, would they be willing to act in it? My guess is no. The magic of the unforgettable couple beren saat and kivanc tatlitug disappeared after 13 years.
"Last Call for Istanbul" fails to live up to its cinematic promises, delivering a lackluster narrative that struggles to engage its audience. The film's plot meanders without clear direction, leaving viewers bewildered rather than captivated. The characters lack depth, making it difficult to invest emotionally in their journeys. The pacing is uneven, leading to moments of boredom followed by rushed scenes that leave little room for meaningful development. Furthermore, the film's attempts at social commentary feel forced and superficial, adding an unnecessary layer of complexity without contributing to the overall coherence of the story. "Last Call for Istanbul" ultimately falls short of expectations, leaving audiences questioning the purpose and impact of the cinematic journey they've just experienced.
I don't wanna make a long review for this one. A basic love story, nothing interesting about the story itself but the circuitous storytelling makes it (a little bit) interesting at some point. To not give any spoilers I will not mention that part in detail but if you have already watched it you'll understand what i mean. Also I didn't like the parts set in New York. NY could be more detailed and involved because the movie is set in NY (like 90 percent of it). There could be some romantic scenes at NY, i mean like the couple having a picnic at the Central Park, hugging each other by the view of central park's lake... But as you can guess non of them is in the movie... Buttt our producers somehow wanted to have an * and doggy sex scene instead of this beautiful romantic and heart warming scenes... Probably they wanted the movie to trend on social media because of this scenes so they can gain viewers and off course more money. I personally didn't comprehend the motivation of making such a move, 'cause movie already has two brilliant stars that pretty popular in Turkey. We haven't seen this two together for a while and they deserved to be in a better movie together. I don't think it's worth the hype for it...
The absence of compelling performances from actors is a critical aspect that can significantly impact the overall viewing experience. A well-executed performance is the lifeblood of any production, injecting emotion, depth, and authenticity into the narrative. When actors fail to engage with their roles or deliver convincing portrayals, the audience is left disconnected and uninvested in the unfolding story. In the realm of entertainment, the audience relies heavily on the ability of actors to bring characters to life. Whether it's a film, TV show, or any other form of visual storytelling, the success of the production hinges on the audience's ability to connect with the characters on an emotional level. Without this connection, the narrative loses its impact, and viewers may find it challenging to stay engaged. Moreover, the lack of actor involvement can lead to a disjointed and unconvincing storyline. Characters are meant to drive the plot forward, and when their performances fall short, the entire narrative structure can crumble. Viewers may struggle to understand character motivations, resulting in a narrative that feels flat and uninteresting. Now, let's address the issue of poor production quality. Production quality encompasses various elements, including cinematography, editing, sound design, and overall technical execution. When these aspects are not up to par, the viewer's immersive experience is compromised. Cinematography plays a crucial role in creating a visually appealing and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. A poorly shot film or TV show can be visually jarring, distracting the audience from the intended narrative. Substandard editing further exacerbates the issue, leading to pacing problems and a lack of coherence in the storytelling. Sound design, often an overlooked but integral part of the viewing experience, can also contribute to the perception of poor production quality. Issues such as inconsistent audio levels, poorly mixed sound, or generic and uninspiring music can detract from the overall impact of the production. Technical execution, encompassing various aspects of behind-the-scenes work, is fundamental to delivering a polished end product. When corners are cut or attention to detail is lacking, it becomes glaringly apparent in the final result. Viewers may be pulled out of the story by noticing continuity errors, unconvincing special effects, or other technical shortcomings. In conclusion, the combination of a lack of actor involvement and poor production quality can transform a potentially engaging piece of entertainment into a frustrating and time-wasting experience. A successful production requires a harmonious collaboration between skilled actors and a dedicated production team to create a compelling narrative with high-quality technical execution. When these elements fall short, audiences are left longing for the immersive and captivating experience they anticipated.
