Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is a documentary that promises to dive into the life and work of one of India's most celebrated filmmakers, SS Rajamouli. Unfortunately, the execution leaves much to be desired. While Rajamouli's contributions to Indian cinema, especially with films like Baahubali and RRR, are undeniable, this documentary takes some strange and uncomfortable detours. One of the most baffling aspects of the film is its focus on Rajamouli's supposed fascination with My Little Pony and his self-proclaimed status as a "brony." For those unfamiliar, "bronies" are adult fans, often male, of the children's TV show My Little Pony. While fandoms can be diverse and passionate, the documentary's excessive emphasis on this part of Rajamouli's personal life comes off as odd, unnecessary, and frankly, creepy. Rather than giving us a deeper insight into Rajamouli's cinematic techniques, inspirations, or struggles, we get drawn into this uncomfortable narrative about his unusual fandom. The film spends an inordinate amount of time exploring his collection of My Little Pony figurines and even goes as far as to include interviews with other bronies, which adds nothing to our understanding of his career or artistic genius. The documentary fails to strike the right balance between the personal and professional. Instead of celebrating his groundbreaking contributions to Indian cinema, it drifts into strange and unsettling territory that leaves viewers more confused than enlightened. If you're hoping to learn more about the man behind the epic films, you're better off watching interviews or behind-the-scenes footage of his movies. In short, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is a disappointing and bizarre portrayal of a brilliant filmmaker, derailed by its creepy fascination with his brony identity. It's a missed opportunity to truly honor Rajamouli's legacy in Indian cinema.

Through the interview by Anupama Chopra, behind-the-scenes footage, it masterfully weaves together the threads of Rajamouli's journey from a photography enthusiast to a cinematic icon on global stage. It also explores his fears, the challenges he faces and his triumphs. Crisp editing and a pulsating soundtrack that perfectly captures the essence of Rajamouli's films. Well-paced and engaging narrative. Watching this documentary offers a enjoyable experience. It left me touched by his simplicity and humility. A great watch for anyone interested in filmmaking, creativity or the art of storytelling. It is a testament to the power of perseverance, and passion and a p how one's dedication and hard work pays off.

How can one of the greatest nations on earth with such rich cultural heritage and storytelling traditions call such directors masters? Paid promotion from Netflix? I'm British but diehard fan of Indian cinema. Mostly everyone in India will disagree with me; but south Indian cinema (with exception of Malayalam movies) has been a disaster for the rise of Indian cinema: RRR, Animal, Bahubali, Kalki, Adipurush, and so on are Bloated and incoherent, weighed down by bad acting, a rambling story, uneven pacing, and erratic visual effects. These action films, based on Indian mythology, rips off well-known franchises "Star Wars," "Troy" "Mad Max" "Game of Thrones" "Old Boy" Godfather" "Pacific Rim" and countless South Korean films - for much of how the movie looks. The characters in these movies also have hollow personalities and lackluster or terrible dialogue. And these nearly three-hour movies do not justify its overly long run time... Within Hindi movies no one really followed paths paved by great Manmohan Desai or Guru Dutt? For me, the Amar Akbar Anthony is the most original Indian movie ever while talking aboit enetertainment and musicals. It is more modern than most of the potboilers being churned out in today's India. What is wrong with India? You gave the world Mahabharat, Jataka Tales, Meghaduta, Panchtantra, Mrichakatikam, and so on. You have equally brilliant modern writers! I believe the great Indian Cinema is yet to come. However, my faith in Indian cinema was restored when India chose not to send Rajamouli's RRR to the 95th Oscars but instead a true modern day masterpiece Chhello Show (Last Film Show) and that act alone made me disover the director Pan Nalin and soon after his SAMSARA and VALLEY OF FLOERS - i was blown away!! These movies were made much ahead of its time - not thats what I call a modern master? Every frame and sound is filled with authentic and organic Indianness and yet its truly universal. But i do not think anyone at Netflix or makers of "Modern Master" have watched movies like SAMSARA (2002), the most favourite film of Keanu Reeves!! The makers of movies like Thappad, Court, Angry Indian Goddesses, Visaranai, The Great Indian Kitchen, and so on are the true Indian Modern Masters. Now please dont tell me your next episode will be on Adi Chopra and Sanjay Leela Bansali!!

Absolutely loved and enjoyed this documentary!!!! As a huge diehard fan of Rajamouli garu, I feel so much pride in my heart and so proud to be a fan of Rajamouli garu! He's a visionary, a mastermind and a mad man and he's a genius at what he does and that clearly is shown in Magadheera, Eega, Baahubali 1 & 2 and RRR. There's nothing less than that I could say, I could go on and on about him for days and days! Thank you Rajamouli garu for bringing Telugu cinema to the whole world and making every single Indian proud and breaking boundaries with the Telugu language and making a huge Pan Indian movement! Thank you sir, thank you! Rejoicing with joy, happiness, pride and so much emotions jumping inside me! Jai Hind!
