Nebraska

Good movie!

"Nebraska" offers viewers an unstinting view of some very unpleasant things: extreme decrepitude, boundless stupidity, greed and ignorance. There is also very deep, and very painful, love on display in this portrait of an embittered working class eking out a meaningless existence in a dysfunctional and remote place. "Nebraska" oscillates between cynicism and schmaltz, pulling off a wondrous kind of emotional alchemy that few films aspire to, let alone attain. All of the acting is first rate, though the characterizations are rather broadly drawn. Will Forte plays a dutiful, sensitive, repressed son with seemingly unlimited patience for the eccentricities of those around him. He's the perfect foil for Bruce Dern's semi-catatonic, alcoholic ramblings (both verbal and spatial). June Squibb serves up hilarious venom to spice up the mix. There were scenes in the movie that so perfectly captured the narrow, soulless, deadening ethos so prevalent in small-town America that I could hardly stand to watch them. It was almost as if the tire stores, bars, gas stations and motels of every desolate corner of America were rolled up into one set of visuals here, captured in stunning black and white cinematography. I highly recommend "Nebraska."

It's a good thing I watch this from a DVD. I had to speed up the player because the movie is so slow. Not much goes on most of the time. No only is it slow, there isn't much of a plot. Whatever little plot there is can be summarized: a man received a "you won a million bucks" letter from a magazine-selling company and decided to travel to the company to claim the money in person. But of course he didn't win. Surely by reading the smaller letters one can see that one hasn't won. The whole story is just not believable. There is no famous actor/actress. It is a low budget movie. As if it's not boring enough, the producer decided to make this a black and white movie. I really don't understand the inflated ratings.

This movie makes me laugh, but also makes me sad. Getting old is bad,and watch our dad getting old is bad,too. I rarely talk to my dad, or go somewhere which him, and when i watch this movie, i want to go home right now and hug my parents, and say i love them so much and more. Our parents, their last wish sometime is just give us something, something to leaved us : a car, a truck, a house, something like that. And in their last years, if have any chance to do that, they will do it with all their heart and power. This movie also make we see more about people. When you're poor, no one by your side. But when they hear you're rich, they will come to you right the way. One more, in 2013, all movie is full of color, Nebraska just have black and white, that make some different.

What year does this story take place? It starts with a retro Paramount logo that seemed vintage 60's. it was shot digitally in black and white with graininess added. There are no computers or cel phones but there seemed to be flat screen TV in the appliance store. The guys are sitting around watching football and the audio clearly says "after further review" which didn't start until the mid 80's. Forget these problems? You have to do something while watching paint dry. Granted Bruce Dern gives a noteworthy performance as an old coot. What's the stretch? The sons are convincing. There are a few nice moments. Some of the humor works. Caring for the elderly not quite at the level of "Where's Poppa" may not be funny for those with the real life experience. No reason to see this in a theater it will be just as slow if you watch it from your sofa. If you are looking for a state titled movie, try "Oklahoma".

Nebraska is the story of an old man and his son who embark upon a personal journey to get an old man's (Woody) million dollars. While his two sons and wife know that this is a scam, Woody insists on traveling to Nebraska to collect his money. The characters and story are impressively crafted. And the choice to shoot the entire film in black and white only adds to the dramatic approach of the film that I loved. The acting is exemplary on all accounts. My personal favorite would be Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad alum. I must say I feel that it's one of those movies that right afterward is slightly underwhelming, but the more you think about it and analyze it the better it gets. It has an emotional range from laugh out loud awkwardness to just plain sobbing. Nebraska is one of my favorite movies and I'd say second only to Spike Jonze's "Her" in 2013. There is no debate, this movie is worth a look.

Watching Nebraska is a lot like driving across the state of Nebraska. Yes, there are moments of beauty, but for the most part, it just takes too long to get to the end. However, I did enjoy the ending. Plus, Bruce Dern gives an excellent performance as a decrepit old man, and Will Forte plays his serious role quite well. It's a good movie, but it's not a great movie.

Bruce Dern plays Woody, an old man thinking he won a million dollars from a sweepstakes letter. Will Forte is his son David, who knows it's not true but decides to humor him and drive him from their home in Billings, Montana, to Lincoln, Nebraska. Along with June Squibb as Dern's wife and Bob Odenkirk as David's brother, they stop at Woody and his wife's hometown of Hawthorne to visit old friends. I'll just now say this was quite a moving drama with some humorous moments concerning exploring the family past and how that affected their present selves. I loved the black-and-white photography and the music that accompanied it. Really, all I'll say now is I highly recommend Nebraska.

The new movie by director Alexander Payne has Bruce Dern and June Squibb giving the most hilarious performances throughout the entire film. The movie tells the story about an alcoholic father named Woody T. Grant (played by Bruce Dern) and his son David (played by Will Forte) end up traveling to Lincoln Nebraska to claim a $ 1,000,000.00 prize (but it turns out to be a false errand. This is another film that works as a comedy more than a drama because I didn't find the movie to be dramatic i found it to be very comedic. But to be honest there was one performance that I found to be really annoying and that was by June Squibb because every line she had to me they were just very unnecessary which had her son annoyed. But to be honest Payne has crafted a near masterpiece that was shot in black and white.

They like to say you can never go home again, but this movie kind of says you can, but you had better hurry or there won't be anyone there to remember you. I was always kind of creeped out by the Dern family when I was a kid, and this is a part that just seems like it has been made for him, or that time has made him for the story. Will Forte plays Will Forte, which is what he plays best, and the rest of the cast is all very good. There are some very funny moments in this movie that will sneak up on you. I love the room full of old men. I have always liked the idea that as we age we are actually just moving through time slower, so it just looks like we are taking a lot longer to do things, and this movie is a great example of that in motion. I really enjoyed the whole story, you never are quite sure about the prize money, and how it is handled is so very heart warming. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes a little laughter in their dramas.
