What I got from this film? Say NO to your kids occasionally. If you don't , then don't act surprised when no-one wants them around. That's about it, really .

The plot of the movie was nice, the characters were funny. The movie was rated "PG" so, the jokes were not that funny (because the movie was destined for kids, too). Anyway, I think comedy movies they usually depend on who funny jokes they have or not. In that case, that movie didn't succeeded that. The ending was kinda emotional. By the way, I think the worst part of the movie was the opening scene, because it was so irrelevant and boring (which would probably make many viewers to quit the movie from the beginning).

I laughed so hard tears flowed. It was typical slapstick Crystal and witty Bette. There were scenes where we had to pause it because we were laughing so hard. A great movie to watch with the kids and grown ups will appreciate the generation gap humor.I read a lot of the reviews here before seeing it and I thought too many people looked too deep into a fun show. It's just a movie!! If you rent it expecting Billy Crystal style humor you won't be disappointed. Sure it's predictable but so what. It was funny! If they came out with a sequel I'd go see it also. It's been a long time since i saw a movie that actually made me LOL.

"Cheaper by the Dozen" may have had more characters, and may not be exactly the same story, but in essence, these 2 films are the same. But, you know something, the Steve Martin movie is funnier and more realistic than this lackluster effort. Crystal and Midler give decent performances, but it's not enough to make this anything more than palatable. It's a movie that feels rushed, hollow, and seems like it was made as an obligation, rather than entertainment. Sure, it's predictable as all slapstick comedies are, but that doesn't make it particularly funny. Aside from clashes of lifestyles, the movie gives us no reason to care much about anyone. ** out of ****

'Parental Guidance' drags. It's very much a one-man band as the amusing Billy Crystal stops this from dropping to deeply low depths, he has a decent amount of good gags and is full of sharp wit. Bette Midler is a (not so) close second, she bounces off Crystal's comedy well. All of the cast that play their family are entirely forgettable, almost annoying in fact. The premise, though it may conclude with a truckload of heart, is boring. It's a tale we've all seen before and it doesn't really add anything different in that regard. It does, to be fair, at least end with a positive meaning which you can't help but appreciate. Unfortunately, all in all, this fails to the hit correct spot with me.

We watched this with our 8, 12 and 14year old daughters, great family fun movie!! Highly recommend if you are looking for a family movie night, no awkward moments between the generations, if you no what i am talking about. Laughs all around and Billy Crystal still has it. I am a big fan so his humor comes through but my kids related to the story line and kids in the movie and even the hubby enjoyed it. Watching it i realized how long its been since i had seen a good family flick, hats off to them and a big thank you for delivering what i forgot i missed! A family movie that we can watch with our teenage daughters and all enjoy is next to impossible but this did the trick.

I just saw this movie earlier today. I thought it to be cute, but wouldn't list it as a comedy. There were some funny parts, but I don't believe it had enough in order for it to be listed as a comedy. Movies such as Shrek and Cop & a Half are comedies because they have various funny parts throughout the movie. This though was your basic movie with funny parts now and again. The movie was still good though. I believe it is one of those movies you can go watch with the entire family. Now, I'm not saying smaller kids would enjoy it (those up to 10) but teens and older kids probably would. This movie was good proof of the idea that parenting is never perfect. I believe that's why the movie was listed as a comedy. The parents and grandparents in the movie have different ideas on how to raise children. Things just go wild when the grandparents try to look over these kids. But as I said before, there didn't appear to be enough humor in the movie to list it as a comedy.

While many have said that this is a mediocre family drama with a predictable ending, I was not disappointed when I watched it. With funny parts, dramatic parts, and a heartwarming ending, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. Not only is it incredibly funny, but it's appropriate for the whole family. Parental Guidance found a way to make an incredibly funny movie without needing to be rated PG-13 or R. The movie also includes actors and actresses that would be familiar to both adults and kids. Billy Crystal, for adults, and Bailee Madison for kids (for her role in Wizards of Waverly Place). All in all, it was a great movie that I would recommend to pretty much anybody and definitely watch again.
