Strangeways Here We Come. A group of oppressed Manchester scallies in a high rise, rise up to get their own back on the loan shark whose been making all their life's a misery. Featuring a b list of soap actors and would be comics, it's a poor attempt at either social realism of a comedy. Films that cater to drug taking audience always come across awkward and embarrassing, like living in this level of destitute of poverty is a right laugh NOT Filmed around Salford, the boys club features prominently, alas that where The Smiths comparisons end there. I'd love to have heard a snippet of The Smiths or Morrissey. It's a shocker, but in its defence, I did want to see how the film ended mainly to see if it improved..,,,
Terrible waste of time and effort. Kept waiting for it to get going, it was so disjointed and 'jerky'. Didn't care about any of the characters at all; not a bit of charisma between them, and couldn't pick out a single bit of decent acting. Michelle Keegan is a really good actor, but not in this. Had great potential, but fell way short of the mark; I'm also from Salford - so really wanted to like it - but I'd really recommend avoiding at all costs. I'm wondering if some of the other reviewers on here actually watched the same film that I did. 90+ minutes of my life that I will never get back....
If you enjoyed Shameless then this will be right up your street. Sex, drugs, gritty violence, dark humour and slapstick are very much order of the day here. I enjoyed it probably more than most, due to the fact I was living in one of the tower blocks where it was filmed. I know the area, the people, the life very well. The characters were spot on. Anyone who knows that part of Salford know's the Loan Shark, the single mum, the retired Boxer, the weird lad, the madhead minicab driver, the young couple punting drugs out of their kitchen. It ain't A Taste of Honey by any stretch, but def a decent 80 odd mins of fun.
This is one of the better british comedy movies iv'e seen in recent time. It was pretty good. It had an interesting plot that we haven't actually seen before as far as I can tell. The tenents of a highrise get to gether to kill off the loan shark thats making their lives miserable. Its played out for laughs in areas but at its core its a dark comedy. Theres a little bit of character development here and there with a few of the tenants. Some parts made me laugh but really I was watching it for the actual plot. The cast all did well with their characters, including a young michelle keegan. Overall pretty good.
It is what it is, daft comedy that fills 90 minutes. Easy to watch, yes predictable but that doesn't mean it's not entertaining. Great characters make the story funny.
Loved this film, easy to watch, very believable and totally down to earth and well cast. Set in gritty Salford it does show ordinary lives and a story that could happen. Hilarious.
Soon as the characters were introduced (being from Salford) I knew the writer was from there.. He captured them and the area perfectly Made for really enjoyable Sunday night film... Switch off, don't think just enjoy. Loved it.
Not funny at all. Could've watch it. Spotted a few familiar mancuians who had been on Corry and obviously doing terrible since they left the show. How and why this rubbish was made is beyond me!!!
Yes its daft, its a comedy after all, but its funny with great characters. I'm not sure why it's got such bad ratings. Enjoyable British comedy for fans of Shameless. Give it a go.
