*MINOR SPOILERS* Unforgettable - I don't know if I'll watch this one again anytime soon, but this is an excellent mix of horror, mystery and generalized shock cinema. My patience for shock tactics is low, but I liked the openness of the ending, and the bloodshed here didn't seem unnecessary - overall this is a gripping, gruesome film that always had me thinking. I liked the brief diversion into glam theatre, which makes the overall mystery of the story richer, though the ghost story suggestions were unneeded and felt like padding. Nonetheless this is a great addition to contemporary Japanese film, and - if you can take plenty of bloodshed - well worth seeing.

...but you will eventually get it. At first viewing it looked like barely related scenes stiched together but two more viewings and bam! It hit me like a train. (no pun intended) Not everything is said in dialogue, try to focus on what is shown! If you're still confused, watch it again.

The very first 5 minutes gave false promises of an intriguing mystery thriller. Why are these girls mass committing suicide? Watch on and you'll find out? Um, no. Whilst they throw in some "clues" and "leads" along the way. A sports bag that turn up at the scenes of death, a website showing dots representing the number of people dead, a little boy who speaks to the lead detective and coughs annoyingly at every sentence, and of course the pop group Dessert which seems very suspiciously related too. All of this dosen't connect any pieces as you will find if you unfortunately watch it to the end. This movie is not "thought provoking", its a waste of time. For those who like watching things with no sense of direction, they might beg to differ of course. But those of us who don't tend to appreciate pretentious "hidden meanings", go watch something else.

This movie starts off with a bang and then fizzles into a mess of interesting ideas with terrible execution. The one thing that ruined this movie was the fact that there wasn't really a central character to follow. It does seem Like that Ryo Ishibashi's Character Detective Kuroda is the main character but after he tops himself the little plot there is just vanishes into thin air. Don't get me wrong there is an interesting theme to this movie its just the final way its put across that I did not like. I mean what the hell was with the Dr Frankenfurther rip off called "Genesis" who thought he was japans answer to Charles Manson and the two girls he kidnaps and eventually kills were again more ideas that were never really fully explained. Overall I like the idea of the film but hated the final result.

I enjoyed this movie for the most part, gore and all.well done mostly.Although i did not like the true and real animal cruelty/torture in the film and for that reason i just cannot watch that part again,it haunted me once i found out if was not fake...hard to deal with.i am fine with fake gore with humans but not real cruelty with animals but thats just me,many people that see this film would not even bat an eye at it but i did and i had nightmares. This film follows detectives trying to figure out why so many teenagers are committing suicide,it had plenty of blood, guts and gore which is always fun.Not the best Asian gore film iv seen but it was worth watching.

Very interesting and unique idea but doesn't quite deliver as hoped. Watching this film 17 years after it's release it does feel a bit dated. Dragging a bit in the middle and seemingly losing its way for a very odd misdirection, the film finds its footing towards the end but still leaves much to be desired. It's worth a watch for sure, but perhaps hoping for something as shocking or as captivating as Oldboy or Battle Royale. (Yes I know those are from different countries)

This film is God. Great plot. Great Message. Great Form. Great Humour. Great Commentary. Acting is good, the characters are archetypes so fits the purpose. Needs at least 2 viewings to get through the meaning. The plot is labyrinthine, while the first characters change through the film. But don't get distracted, the message is there. I saw it at the first year of film school, still have a crush on that film. The effects may seem out of date if you are not tolerating irony very well. 10/10. Would watch again and again and again.
