Terrible movie, to be honest. I have never been so underwhelmed. Bad cheesy acting, completely predictable and cliche plot (obviously it is based on a true story, but all the meat of the plot - aside from real historical events - was so boring), no character depth, feeble attempts at building suspense, oh and low grade makeup/cosmetics. Overall just felt like they were trying too hard and it's giving "wannabe." The only positive was they had some pretty decent special effects. Totally wasted 2 hours of my life, so if that sounds like a good time to you, give it a look see. You'll probably regret it if you do. Just sayin.

It's a film full of cliches and a list full off predictability's. All in the film has been seen before. Best friend dies. Foreigner, not from town. Two of the same sex in love. Of course one of them dies, and one of the main characters dies in the end. Main character like an ice cube throughout the film. This is a repetition of every disaster film from the eighties. Only things that was changed are the sexes on the characters. They even had the obligatory joik and reindeer's, since the film was from the north off Sweden. This is a film made off a bunch off lazy people. A quick buck because they know that old Kiruna have to and are moving.

This seemed like both a bold and promising choice - creating a very big budget disaster film outside of Hollywood is indeed very hard, in order to make it realistic and good looking. But safe to say, this very competent director managed to put together a fun, beautifully put together, and most of all, emotional and anxiety inducing adventure. The effects are beautiful, very finely cinematographied, cut and edited - and the suspense is ever high, it is indeed an extremely scary and anxiety inducing feature. My favourite part is the middle act, taking place in a secluded mineshaft that is about to collapse. Very emotional character work, very suspensful and exciting. Overall, a very finely made action film with some high emotions, and great visuals!

Okay so first off this movie is I guess Swedish? Language movie dubbed into English? It starts off with the obligatory 5/10 score and a -1 Star for stealing the movie title of a Spectacular movie The Abyss from 89 by James Cameron. This one is not even remotely as good as that. A movie about a earthquake or something in a subterranean dig site. It's not really good, not really bad. One thing that struck me is that the younger women in the movie seemed a little bit looney. Or was it just me that thought that? Haha. Anyhow don't steal old titles! Do Your research movie makers! Can't give this one any better than a 4/10.

I won't go into plot details because I see most have been discussed at great length but I did notice all male characters are written to be sniveling/cowering idiots while basically all female characters are super beings. I would not bring it up if not for the fact that basically ALL of them (on either side) are cliched like that. Seems reductionist.... BTW, if the roles were revered, I would consider that stupid as well. Her husband is a whiny mess, the son is almost an after thought - though finding him was the mission of the plot - and the new boyfriend is just happy to be there with very little self thought. I don't know, it just jumped at me how marked of a dividing line in decision making they made the characters.
