Good movie!
source: The Kill Team
This film start with a man "Andrew" pretend he shooting with a skateboard, he smoking with his father, and he sent to Afghanistan's army base scene! As turnout, this film is about Andrew knowing his superior "Sergeant Deeks" is a civilian murderer, he struggle to expose his superior or not! All the action in the film quite bored and the shooting scene not even show to us! Barely intense scene is, Andrew hitting a civilian at the village to make him stay on the ground! The film also have a ridiculous and lame fighting scene! Andrew fighting with Marquez, Andrew simply won by licking Marquez's ear! At the end, Andrew's parents arrive at the army base! They ask Andrew tell the lawyer what he witness! At the very end, an article indicate Andrew sentenced three years in jail and Sergeant Deeks having life sentence! That's it! Another boring film! Not recommended!
The film itself was fine but as others said, Nat Wolf was AWFUL!!!! The only thing he does all movie is stare and stare some more. He had no real emotions, he was easily the weakest character in the film. He also didn't look like a Marine at all...also, did this incident happen with the Army? Not Marines??? If so that's awful to paint the Marines in that light. That would be like if a FBI killed someone and you made a movie about it but they're cops. They also portray the Americans as savages while the Afghans are all innocent, war is ugly and it's damn sure NOT black and white!!! As much as I wasn't a big fan of it, if you wanna look at the war in a negative light, JARHEAD is a better option.
I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll just say this movie had the right story, the right actors, the right setting to be something special but the whole film came out shallow & flat imo. It just seemed like a paint by numbers production. The battle or military sequences could've been more broad or involved. They could've included the trials & news coverage or the impact this story had on the country or military but didn't. When the movie ended & went to credits I said to myself: 'is that it?' Evidently it was & it just wasn't good enough imo.
Current rating below 7 are wrong and unfair for me. This movie is good, is well acted and paced. I recommend it.
If you like war films, this is a good one. The story is not original, no one is reinventing the wheel here. A rookie enlists in the army with dreams of finding a calling and a purpose, only to end up finding instead violence and cynicism. The actors do a great job, the production is solid, a few moments of suspence. No need to overthink who was right and who was wrong in Bush's war. After all, the main point here is that in times of war, the thin red line gets blurred.
