This was a great movie and like the Great Escaper portrayed the need many veterans have to at least once before they pass return to their old battle fields to commemorate their comrades who did not return. It's a pity the producer and director of The Last Rifleman didn't take care to ensure that Artie's medals were displayed in the correct order. The military medal a gallantry award should have been worn on the far left of the rest of his medals as you look at them not on the far right. The group should have been from the left as you look The Military Medal, The 1939-45 Star, The France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Victory Medal.

Watched a few this kind of escape of aged people, and sure this one is the best of them. Pierce played a 92 years old former rifleman and he intended to go to WWII place for the 75 anniversary. Living in an aged house, he needed to escape (with the expired passport!) with excitement. With the help from several people (boy who loved Ennio, taxi driver, cart driving woman, French lady and even the journalist, actually there is no bad guy in this movie), he finally reached the venue. While he was waiting his teammates to come, he only realized that he is the LAST RIFLEMAN left on earth! And with the broadcast of different media, his journey becomes so famous. When he got home from France, he was greeted as a hero (and sure he is a hero) and with a happy ending. Although in his 70 and no longer a James Bond, Pierce is playing great in this movie which I like much.

Based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British man who escaped his nursing home in the south of England and somehow got from Calais to Normandy to commemorate D-Day. This wonderful film switches our hero to be from Northern Ireland. This was a brave and commendable choice. For this alone it should be watched as it shines a light on the brave sacrifice of so many loyal Irishman in WW2. What made it a 10/10 for me were two things. First it was absolutely authentic. The black soldier wasn't "bigged up" but neither did he need to be. This was a superb scene. John Amos was excellent in his role here. The second was that Terry Loane, as Director, and Kevin Fitzpatrick's writing ensure that tough issues are not ignored. Pierce's Brosnans anger with the SS soldier seems entirely genuine and Kevin does not shirk the difficulty of crafting the scene. Jurgen Prochnow isn't so strong here. But a special shout out must be made for Clemence Poesy who steals every frame she is in. You will remember her from Harry Potter but here she is older and showing off her acting range. Of course Pierce is amazing. It breaks my heart that this film was not promoted or marketed. It deserves so much better.

Never been a fan of Pierce Brosnan, however he deserves an accolade for his work on this film. Well done story and a relevant story we need more considering the current geopolitical environment. We continue to take freedom and democracy for granted and continue to sleep walk and allow the thugs in leadership positions to threaten the very essence of what we should be fighting to keep and protect. Those who've never experienced freedom and democracy and gain it, like Ukrainians, will fight to their deaths to protect it. If only I had a magic wand, surely would drop the genocidal usual suspects in the front lines to experience the atrocities of war. Altogether the movie is heartwarming and the performance of Clemence Poesy, John Amos, Ian McElhinney, Tara Lynne O' Neil and the rest of the cast was top class. Excellent script and narrative, truly enjoyed this film. Which shows you don't need car crashes, explosions, fights, sex, shootings and violence to make a great film. Keep it simple and tell a good story.

This was a wonderful and touching film. It brought back memories of when I went to Normandy with My Late Grandfather, who was in the Lancashire Fusiliers and survived Dunkirk and Normandy. Brosnan brilliantly portrayed the last surviving member of the regiment that he served with. His journey from the nursing home he escaped from and those that helped him along the way was excellent. Clemence Poesy was wonderful as the relative of a French Resistance fighter during WW2 and helped hide Brosnan away for part of the film and formed a strong bond with Brosnan. It was touching, poignant and showed the emotional battles that servicemen and servicewomen have faced both physically and emotionally in combat.
