If you like murder mysteries and have a few hours of binging to spare, give this one a chance. I'm a sucker for murder mysteries and have been in the mood for them lately {possibly due to the upcoming "spooky season"}. The one thing I feel this was missing was the thrill most mysteries have. I guess that would make it more of a dark comedy? There are some "WTF" moments and moments that raise your eyebrow in confusion. Thankfully, the pieces will come together. You just have to be patient. My favorite part of mysteries is trying to make an early guess and sticking to it. I like being right but it's also fun to be wrong and shocked. Without knowing any knowledge of the book and strictly going off the trailer, it's not hard to guess that Merritt was the show's victim. Not to toot my own horn, but I guessed right away that Abby was her killer. There were moments I groaned thinking it would turn out to be an accident. I also thought maybe a weird twist would be it was all fake in order for Greer to have content for her next book. But it was simpler than that. Abby had some very odd dialog in the police station that almost made me think she could be a sociopath. She didn't even try to fake any emotion, just more of an attitude like "Yeah, I married into a crazy family." Up until she was sunbathing rubbing on her weird stretch mark cream, I suspected she might not even really be pregnant. {Honestly, what pregnant woman would try to break up a fight then worry more about getting cake on her dress than her baby being harmed??} Her comment about being a white woman made me think "Is that her mindset? That she could really get away with murder just because she's white?" Instead, she must've thought being pregnant was her get-out-of-jail-free card because that was her argument. She's so unlikeable you don't even feel sorry for her. I didn't expect her motive to be what it was, though. I thought maybe she was jealous of Merritt's friendship with Amelia and it was an argument gone wrong. Or Merritt found out she wasn't really pregnant {when I was still assuming she was faking} or maybe she thought Tom was having an affair with her. Instead, it all came down to greed over an upcoming 18th birthday and trust fund. I wasn't expecting the ending to be what it was, but I was pleased. Right off the bat, we don't like Greer and that doesn't change. But then she finally becomes tired of living a lie and in a dysfunctional marriage. It gets the ball rolling for everyone to be "free" {except for Abby, haha} and move on. I liked that she went through the trouble to find Amelia and ask for her blessing on the new book and sounds like they will be friends, or at least civil. I didn't understand the choice of a flash mob-style opening theme, but didn't hate it either. All in all, I'd say this is worth a watch. Just don't expect to be wow-ed and you'll be fine.

This TV show is so intelligently done and I truly enjoyed the atmosphere from the beginning until the end. Every character is thick, brilliant cast, this show delivered exactly what expected. It is showing, in a very sophisticated way, decadence of one wealthy, "I am bored, let's buy a donkey" wealthy family, and all put in a nice and smooth crime-drama genre. Placed in a perfect remote isolated spot, the plot is developing slowly but tense and it is definitely holding the attention. The rhythm is not for the audience who enjoys a bit of fast action or more dynamic TV crime drama, but I liked the rhythm here, because it suits the place and the characters. It felt like reading a good book, which I think was the idea of the creator. Well done and recommended.

Ok i liked the opening scene where all the actors and the staff were dancing. My concern is Nicole Kidman and lack of her facial expressions she looks like a zombie and literally ruins the whole series m the scenes where you could see both: her fave bad hands were actually scary. Other than that I loved Thomas.(Jack Raynor) and Dakota Fanning. Obviously Netflix has spent a lot of money on that show: top cast, location, real luxury clothes and home appliances However right after the Ideal Couple I have watched another crime mini series and it was on a totally different level of entertainment and how well paced it was. You don't need to spend a fortune once the story is good.

The critics have been cruel. The ratings are middling BUT they miss the point. This is a typical Agatha Christie-esque who-dunnit.... take a group of people at a country house and have a dead body type of whodunnit. So it becomes a sort of puzzle. 1. Attractive cast - check 2. Attractive locale - check 3. Characters with secrets - check 4. Characters with motive - check 5. Characters with opportunity - check 6. Murder victim who may or may not be a nice person - check 7. Big reveal at the end after assorted red herrings are resolved. - check Now comes the hard part. Is it well done? Actually I think it is. It does drag at little in the middle but the resolution works. As for the cast. I think they all do quite well and Nicole Kidman whom I have never quite taken to actually surprises me. I usually find her cold but in this, at the end, I fully understood her character. Her much maligned accent actually makes sense in the circumstances. Give it a try. It is not the greatest mystery ever but it is fun if you just go along for the ride.

I found it very interesting and definitely enjoyed watching it. I hope there is a season two! I started watching the first episode and ended up watching all six. I thought the characters were great and very interesting. I recommended it to a friend and she seems to be enjoying it as well. It was a good story, lots of action, and a great mystery going on not sure what everybody else wanted, but certainly was something I enjoyed. It definitely had my attention right up to the very end. I thought Nicole and Leiv Did a great job. I am not sure why I have to write 300 words or more so this is accepted.

People love these stories. Rich people with problems so they can feel better about themselves since they are not rich. After all, rich people do not watch shows about rich people with problems, they are too busy making money. The acting is actually good but there are so many holes in the story it had to be written by someone more interested in a story than in fact. I mean, you do not question a suspect in a hospital room with no one else around. It would be coercion, and you would lose any case in court. And like many shows that are written without thinking, the cops are portrayed as idiots who consistently try to intimidate their suspects into giving them answers at every turn. Hello, Hollywood, not every cop is dumb!! But this is not a reality show, more about who done it and who is the murdered. All I can say is the show is too long. Could have been a 2-hour movie and would have made the same sense, maybe more sense.

An easy six hours that would have been improved if it were written for half that time then edited down to two and change. The gist is that a prolific fiction author is married for 29 years to a wealthy man. They have three sons, the youngest is 17, the eldest is married and expecting in a few months, and the middle son is getting married tomorrow. The bride to be is not wealthy and it appears, strangely, that the bride's only would be attendees are her maid of honor and her parents. They throw in a few more characters to mix it up a bit, but when a main character turns up drowned the story turns detective story told in flashbacks, police interviews and interactions between the main characters conveniently trapped in the Nantucket mansion. There are weird sexcapades and alot of bullying that is meant to be funny, I guess. Although their are ample motives for a murder that actual motive is revealed in the final 30 minutes of the series after every other more likely motives are dispatched one at a time. The acting is okay but Leiv Schreiber kinds just phones it in since his character is always drunk and stoned. Nicole Kidman's character is just one note: archly superior snark coated in a hard shell of narcissism. All the bullying makes most of the characters, obnoxious and undesirable. The bride and groom, the targets of most of the bullying, keep making highly unlikely but predictable mistakes. The characters that make the series almost unredeemable are the completely unlikable eldest brother and his pregnant wife and a french sexpot played by Isabel Adjani whose character is a superfluous caricature that delivers her lines in a occasionally French accent with occasional insertions of French phrases. To make this character even worse is that Adjani is nearly 70 and her character is having an affair with the 28 year-old eldest son. Also, it is now a writing trope to include weird throw away characters spouting outrageous conspiracy statements sprinkled with perverted observations and innuendo that no-one has ever used. I gave the series a six because I actually enjoyed most of it.

I was so excited to watch it, the cast looked great, and I love the genre. The views of Nantucket Island are gorgeous. Easy to watch, murder plot is good. But something was missing. Most of the characters were annoying. Particularly I disliked the French lady. I get it that they wanted a corky lady to bring some humor with a European touch, but it didn't work out at all. None of the sons were appealing. Even Live Schreiber was a disappointment. I am so upset with Nichole Kidman for ruining her face. It is very hard to concentrate on her acting without constantly thinking of her morphed face, and I really hate to say it. But her tall and slim body left me in awe! Meghann Fahy (Merritt), on the other hand, is absolutely gorgeous with all her natural wrinkles and freckles. I didn't fall in love with any of characters. I did enjoy the woman detective though. All characters felt flat, even the main "poor" girl. Some scenes were well executed, but some were just awful and awkward (the whole scene with book singing....wth was that? Just so bad!). Such a great potential for the series and somehow, they missed the mark. I would totally recast most of them and bring more darkness and less awkwardness. The ending at the zoo didn't work out for me at all. I would rather it ended with Amelia seeing the new book written by Greer at the airport, she glanced at the dedication page and put it back on shelf, then we see her walking to her gate. And, scene! Still fun to binge watch. If you are bored and have a few hours, go watch it and let me know if you guessed the killer right away.

In terms of writing, this series borders on satirical. The script is so unnatural and forced, it's almost comedic, and as a result, I found it hard to take any of the actors seriously. How Kidman and Schreiber got wrangled into this fiasco of a production is a more suspenseful mystery than that on which this entire series is based. That said, it does keep you engaged. I don't regret watching the series, it's a pretty formulaic production, very predictable, and if you're looking for a lazy weekend show to binge, it will scratch that itch. You're not watching Citizen Kane, but what the hey. Sometimes we all just need to turn our brains off for a bit and be entertained.
